Pastor Ryan’s Jumbled Thoughts 10/28/26
In this All Saints Sunday message, we are reminded of Paul’s words in Ephesians 1: Through Jesus Christ, we have received an inheritance that can never be taken away. It isn’t measured in money, property, or possessions, but in God’s amazing grace, the hope of resurrection, and the promise that we are never alone. As we remember the saints who have gone before us, we give thanks for their stories, laughter, wisdom, faith, and love. We also acknowledge the grief that comes with missing those who helped shape our lives. Faith doesn’t mean we stop grieving; it means we can carry our grief alongside our hope, trusting that death does not have the final word. The greatest inheritance we receive from those who came before us is the love and faith they planted in our hearts. Their example continues through the ways we care for our neighbors, forgive one another, serve those in need, and offer kindness when it matters most. Now it’s our turn to carry that inheritance forward. What will we leave behind? More than what we owned, may we be remembered for how we loved, the hope we shared, and the lives we touched. As we approach the holiday season, may we give thanks for the saints who helped shape our faith and live each day in a way that reflects God’s grace. Because Christ has died, Christ is risen, and Christ will come again, we can face the future with hope. Our greatest legacy isn’t what we leave behind, but the love we leave in others. Through the grace of God in Jesus Christ, we are never alone. The holiday season is a wonderful time of year, filled with plenty of reasons to be happy! There are pies, cakes, candies, and all those other holiday goodies that put smiles on our faces—and quite possibly add a few extra pounds along the way! But we also know this season can bring pain, doubt, fear, and sadness for many people. During the stretch from Thanksgiving to Christmas, I often try to spend a few extra minutes visiting local nursing homes. Many residents don’t have visitors, especially amid the hustle and bustle of the holidays. I’ve found that these visits brighten my spirits just as much as they brighten theirs. One of the most important things we can remember this time of year is how Jesus cared for those who were struggling or in need. We can love on those who are hurting, feed those who are hungry, clothe those who need warm clothes, and bring hope to those looking for a bright spot in an otherwise difficult season. I appreciate that this church values the principles Jesus taught us. We love big, care for those we can, and put the love of Christ into action in all that we do. That’s one of the best ways we can spread a little extra cheer this holiday season! So, as we move through the coming weeks, let’s remember the saints who have gone before us and the lessons they taught us. Let’s hold on to our faith, even in discouraging times, and look for opportunities to share God’s love with those around us. You never know how much a little kindness, a visit, or an encouraging word might mean to someone.
Have a blessed week!
Ryan
