Welcome! New Board Members

The Foundation is pleased to introduce our three newest board members.

Deepti Doshi is co-director of New_ Public, a nonprofit R&D lab reimagining social media to help people connect and thrive. Deepti is also a Tech Ethics and Policy Mentor at Stanford University, guiding students on the ethical and policy dimensions of technology. Deepti moved from Paris to Berkeley five years ago and lives here with her husband and two young sons.

Autumn Woish is the Executive Director of Membership Fundraising and Donor Relations at KQED. Previously, she was VP of Development at Planned Parenthood of Northern CA. She's worked with other nonprofits, including the Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation, YMCA of San Francisco, and the Asian Art Museum. Autumn was raised in San Francisco.

Catherine Dower is a long time resident of Berkeley. She's a Health Research & Policy Consultant who provides research, analysis, and writing services to nonprofits and educational organizations. Catherine has degrees from UC Berkeley in political science and law and has served on many boards over the past 20+ years.

X Marks the Spot!

Do you have a nice visible spot in your front window, yard, or business in Berkeley?

Please help us spread the word about Measure X, which will appear on Berkeley voters' ballots for November. Our libraries urgently need additional ongoing funds. Without an increase for everyday operations, there will be cuts in open hours, reduced staffing and collections, delays in much-needed air and cooling repairs, and reductions in programs highly valued by our community. You can learn more about the measure here.

The last time our libraries received operational funding from voters was in the 1980s. It’s time to renew our support!

So head over to the Friends of the Library Bookstore on Channing Way (free parking for the first hour in the upstairs garage). The store is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 to 4. Get your sign to show your support.

You can also sign up here to have one delivered by one of the campaign volunteers.

The Claremont Library celebrates its centennial year! Here is a short video about the history of this lovely neighborhood library featuring some familiar faces. It runs under 4 minutes. Enjoy!

The Rosa Shattuck Circle (RSC) recognizes individual donors of the Foundation who make gifts of $1,000 or more over the year. We celebrate the generosity of this donor circle at an annual reception, which will be held this year at the Claremont Library in early November. RSC Members should look out for an invitation soon! Not a member yet? It's never too late to donate and join the circle!

DONATE

The Berkeley Public Library Foundation provides the grant funds that our library needs to go beyond everyday operations. We give librarians tools to innovate, try out new ideas, expand literacy projects, and make building improvements not covered by bond measures or taxes.
