NEWS FROM

COMMUNITY RESOURCE SERVICES

OCTOBER 2024

CRS is proud to announce the 14th Annual SOUPer Bowl Food Drive on Friday, October 25th. The food drive will be held at the Avon vs. Avon Lake Varsity Football Game at Avon Lake Memorial Stadium, 175 Avon Belden Rd., Avon Lake.

The SOUPer Bowl Food Drive is a friendly competition between community members in Avon and Avon Lake to see who can collect the most food by weight. We also accept cash donations. Each $1 contributed will be counted as 5 pounds of food. All donations will directly benefit families in Avon and Avon Lake through our onsite food pantry and financial assistance for emergency expenses. The winner of the food drive competition will be announced at half time and will be presented with the SOUPer Bowl Trophy.

Items can be dropped off at the CRS office, at all schools in Avon and Avon Lake by October 24th, or you can bring your donations to the football game on October 25th.

Since its inception in 2010, the SOUPer Bowl Food Drive has collected 84,360 pounds of food and $169,406 in monetary donations.

Empty Bowls by the Lake!

The Empty Bowls by the Lake fundraiser is this Saturday, October 19th from 11:00am - 2:00pm at Avon Lake High School. For a donation of $25 you will receive unlimited samples of bread and soups from dozens of local restaurants, plus a keepsake hand-crafted bowl as a reminder of all the "empty bowls" in the world. The event also features live entertainment, raffles and more! Proceeds benefit CRS, Second Harvest Food Bank, and other local food banks.

We have a new client who recently moved to the area to be a full-time caregiver for her mother. Her mom passed away a few months ago, and the client has been struggling, both emotionally and financially. She is working part-time but has fallen behind on her rent. The CRS Client Coordinators have been working with her to help get her back on track. After a long conversation with Client Coordinator, Mary, the client felt inspired to look for a new, full-time job. We just found out that the client had an interview, sat in on a class and is being sent paperwork for a new job! She feels like things are finally turning around and a cloud has been lifted. She wanted us to know how much she appreciated that Mary took the time with her and listened not just to what she needed financially, but also to what was happening in her life.

Is Your Business or Organization Looking for a Way to Support CRS?

Would your business or organization like to support CRS? Hosting a drive for the CRS food pantry is a great way to help!

We are always in need of staples like peanut butter, jelly, hearty soups, cereal, pasta, pasta sauce and canned chicken/tuna. Or you can get creative and collect specific items based on a theme such as snack foods, breakfast foods, toiletries or cleaning supplies. Another great idea is to have a spice drive. It is such a treat to offer our clients spices that they normally wouldn't be able to purchase for themselves.

If you would like more information about hosting a drive, please email our Pantry Manager, Cece Carlson or call her at 440-933-5639.
