THIS SUNDAY

Sunday, July 5, 2026

Join us this first Sunday in July for a vital, meaningful and busy service of worship! Pastor Mary Jo will offer a report on her recent trip to Annual Conference, with a special message entitled Working in the Name of Jesus. We will read one of the most famous Biblical stories ever written, all about Jesus feeding a huge crowd of people, and we will all take Communion together. And Julie Smith and the Sunday School team will joyfully guide our children through their part of our Sabbath day as they always do.

Our readings this Sunday are:

Psalm 145: 8 - 14

Matthew 14: 13 - 21

How Can I Help?
What Can I Do?

We need people - MAYBE EVEN YOU -

to fill key volunteer roles!

None of these tasks are difficult

and they don't take up much time,

but they are very important in the life of your church

If you've been thinking about

wanting to do more for your church,

here are some ways you could do just that!

Make music this summer
If you play an instrument or sing,
you can do so during one of our summer worship services!

Please contact Beth Polen

Join our A/V team
If you are already in church on Sunday morning,
why not volunteer one Sunday a month
to help run our audio and visual equipment?
It's not difficult, no experience or technical knowledge is necessary,
and you will be trained on the job!

Please contact Pastor Mary Jo if you are interested

Be a part of Lilly's office squad
We need just
four people to give one or two hours a day,
Tuesdays through Fridays,
to help our amazing Administrator Lilly Brunoni
manage our office and building

Contact Lilly today to sign up!

Become a Sunday caretaker
We need people every Sunday to stay after church
and make sure all of the lights are turned off

and the building is secure

You will also have to stay through
the Sunday afternoon meal in Wesley Hall, usually until about 2 pm

Please contact Ron Leonard
if you can do this even one Sunday a month,

or even one Sunday every two months!

This is From the Archives, where we present something from our extensive collection of archival photos, records and all manner of materials dating back to when the church was First Methodist Episcopal, to First Methodist, to Church of the Savior, to St. Paul's to Crossroads.

As the song says, the church is not a building, the church is not a steeple, the church is not a resting place, the church is a people. And in this Archives section over the past few weeks, we have shared with you some great pictures of our building and its infrastructure; pictures that show the various kinds of changes or progress the building has undergone in its century and counting of service.

But a building is just that, a building. So this week, let's talk about people instead. The church is a congregation, and a congregation is guided by Pastors, Priests or Ministers. The clergy receive special training and special certification to declare clearly to the world that they are qualified and ready to lead their congregations.

Of course, the duties of a Pastor vary wildly. They perform weddings and funerals, they both console people and also celebrate with them. A Minister must minister to the newly born, the dying, the young, the old and everyone in between. And they must face whatever challenges their congregations present them with.

This week's archives item centers around one of our former Pastors, David Oliver. David, currently the Pastor of First United Methodist in Massillon, is known and/or remembered by many to be a very studious, forthright and dedicated person, who always approached his ministerial duties at the former Church of the Savior with those qualities in full force.

Here's a picture of David from sometime in 1987 at the skating rink in North Canton with the then Church of the Savior youth group, which was under the direction of Jeri Johnson at the time (thanks to Jeri for taking and saving the photo).

Ministers-in-Training have to study theology, history, homiletics and all kinds of very serious topics when they are preparing for their congregational service. But did anyone in Seminary ever tell David that he'd also have to roller skate?
