MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
I hope all in the community enjoyed the long weekend and family time on the Fourth of July. Trustee Dana White joined many in our community at the Community Fun Day provided by HORAC ministries on July 5. Here she is pictured with Bishop Whitaker.
What are you doing this week? Come and join me in celebrating live entertainment in Ossining this summer. This week's line-up includes:
  • Tuesday (tonight): LiLui Acrobat as part of the Family Summer Entertainment Series on July 6 @ 7 PM at the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center due to impending weather
  • Wednesday: Midnight Maizy as part of the Summer Acoustic Music Series on July 7 @ 7 PM in Market Square
  • Food Truck Friday: The Sleepy Hollow String Band

So grab dinner from one of Ossining's local eateries, a lawn chair, and of course your family and friends - and we'll see you there!

The Ossining Community Equity Task Force helps our local governments identify areas where inequities (unequal treatment) might exist and also assist in identifying ways to eliminate those inequities. The goal of the Task Force is to help ensure that Ossining is one of the best communities to live in and is a model for other communities in how it recognizes and supports its diversity. Would you mind taking a few minutes to complete the survey below to share any concerns about fairness or discrimination you may have experienced as a resident of Ossining? We need your voice to help our local governments ensure that all community residents are being served, protected, and supported fairly. Please feel free to forward this information to any organizations or people you think should participate.

This week’s Legislative Meeting Agenda (Wednesday 7/7) will be back in person at Village Hall, 16 Croton Avenue, in the Board Room. We will also stream via Zoom for those community members/consultants who wish to watch/participate from home. This is per legislative order.

The Village Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) is hard at work and has requested to work on several policies related to tree equity and tree placement throughout the Village. The Board is being asked to officially designate the EAC as the Village's "Tree Board," which does not by nature change their directive or affect the progression of projects through the land use board process but simply makes clearer the already defined scope of their advisory role concerning environmental issues.

The BOT will be asked to vote on (3) resolutions related to the Comprehensive Plan: adoption of SEQR findings, adopting the Plan and adopting the related zoning text amendments. I consider the Comprehensive Plan one of the most important pieces of work in front of my administration, so this is a big deal moment for our Village. It is an iterative process, but this vote is one of the significant milestones. I cannot talk about the Comprehensive Plan without also thanking all those in our community who volunteered their time to be on the Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, our staff, volunteers, and numerous focus groups who worked on the Plan.
