Taxpayer-Funded Golden Parachute, Public Transportation Money Pit, City Council Payouts to Criminals, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • Do you ever wish you could have a golden parachute to provide riches for you after you leave a job? Well, you can’t have one, because you are funding a golden parachute for the Colorado Springs Planning and Neighborhood Services Director, who recently left his position. Learn all the details of this taxpayer-funded parachute of gold in our latest original article.

  • Who is looking out for you, fellow taxpayers? Your humble and hard-working watchdogs at Springs Taxpayers United, that’s who. We file CORA requests regularly on your behalf so that we can all see the dirty details of how the government uses your taxpayer dollars. If you are so inclined, please chip in a few bucks to help keep our mission going.

  • In many cases, affordable housing is only affordable because taxpayers are forced to fund construction.

  • This week in irony, many local renters who are in affordable housing, are concerned about upcoming increases in rental costs. Is the affordable housing grift unraveling like the Sanctuary City grift?

  • The managers of the Citadel Mall are surprised to find the mall is on the list of places military personnel are instructed to avoid. Ironically, there was another shooting at the Citadel Mall just this week.

  • This week in Government at its Finest, the City of Colorado Springs wants people to make reservations for the Manitou Incline. But, they aren’t checking if reservations have been made. Carry on, Incline users.

  • The Amara annexation, and subsequent development, are likely to stretch already scarce city resources in Colorado Springs.

  • Remember the Biden Border Crisis that allowed millions of illegal aliens to flood our state? Some of these illegal aliens are Venezuelan gang members, and they may be planning to attack law enforcement. So now we have that going for us.

  • A recent report shows us what we already knew: Public transportation, specifically the RTD system in Denver, is a wasteful money pit for taxpayers.

  • Colorado Springs City Council pays out millions of taxpayer dollars to plaintiffs who are injured in police incidents. However, in many of these cases, the police use of force is determined to be justified. Do you think it’s appropriate for the city council to reward defendants when the use of force was justified?

  • In related news, one violent car thief, who was appropriately and lawfully tasered by police, is now paralyzed as a result of his criminal actions. He’s suing for $100 million. Are attorneys and criminals emboldened by Colorado Springs City Council’s habit of quickly paying out money to these litigants?

  • A recent study shows that Colorado Springs is one of the most desirable midsized cities in the United States.

  • Mayor Mobolade announced that the city is drafting a plan to fund an additional homeless shelter. Details are vague currently, but public input is being solicited for this and other actions to deal with the vagrants in our region.

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
