The Fulani cattle producers of West Africa are the largest nomadic herdsman group in the world. Many have lost their cattle and thousands of the people have been killed. More Fulani, especially children, are dying every day because they no longer have a livelihood. Without cattle and the nutrition and income they provide, the Fulani have little chance of survival.
Cattle For Christ International is working to help this group of over 40 million people to once again become self-sustaining cattlemen. Our plans are strategic, and with your help, we can literally save the lives of millions of these people for generations to come. We can make their cattle more productive, while drastically reducing cattle populations. Fewer, but more productive cattle will greatly decrease the demand for grazing land and water needed to survive. This strategic approach will benefit both the Fulani cattlemen and the land owning farmers that are currently warring with one another over land use .
Our comprehensive plan introduces U.S. Dairy genetics and management practices that utilize "zero grazing" (feed and water are brought to the cows). This approach eliminates or greatly reduces the need for grazing land and the threat of conflict. We estimate that one of our cows will replace 11 of their native cows in dairy production. Over time, the numbers in our purebred herd will continue to grow in a controlled environment The bull calves will be mated with the indigenous Zebu type cattle--potentially doubling or tripling milk production in just one generation.
