Virginia Health Care Foundation (VHCF)’s SignUpNow Initiative

VHCF’s SignUpNow (SUN) initiative is a comprehensive Medicaid training program for health care, community-based, and social services organizations, and the general public. Their workshops cover eligibility, enrollment, and the practical information needed to help Virginians access and keep Medicaid coverage.

  • SUNLight: A new 90-minute virtual workshop breaks down Medicaid fundamentals and the new federal changes. Participants will leave with a better understanding of what’s changing and a “first aid kit” of practical resources to support Virginians in staying covered.
  • Target audience: Designed for a broad audience, from frontline staff providing direct assistance, to organizational leadership planning for the broader impacts.
  • SignUpNow Workshops: Our classic SignUpNow virtual workshops provide a deeper look at Virginia’s Medicaid programs.
  • SignUpNow – Medicaid/FAMIS: Covers Virginia’s Medicaid/FAMIS programs for adults, children, and families, including a deeper dive into the new federal changes.
  • SignUpNow – Aged, Blind, Disabled (ABD): Focuses on Virginia’s Medicaid programs for older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Target audience: Designed for those working directly with individuals and families navigating coverage.

Project Connect: Expanding Medicaid Application Assistance:

Be on the lookout!

Through additional support from the GA and DMAS, VHCF is planning to release a Request for Applications (RFA) in early September to expand our Project Connect statewide network of Medicaid outreach and enrollment assisters. This 18-month special grant initiative (January 1, 2027 – June 30, 2028) will support new and existing partners in increasing access to Medicaid outreach and enrollment assistance in response to new federal Medicaid requirements. The RFA will include additional details on eligibility, staffing requirements, allowable uses of funds, and the application timeline. VHCF and VACAP will follow up with the RFA link when it goes live in early September.

Virginia Housing Faith-Based Housing Listening Sessions

The Virginia Housing Strategic Housing Team will host listening sessions with partners to hear how the team can support those considering partnerships to develop affordable housing. As the “Faith in Housing Act” goes into effect in January 2027, these sessions will allow Virginia Housing to answer questions about resources they may have to assist with development efforts and learn more about opportunities to support Virginia's Housing Delivery Network.

Governor Spanberger Encourages Eligible Families to Apply for Summer Nutrition Program Ahead of August 31 Deadline

RICHMOND, VA — Governor Abigail Spanberger today encouraged eligible Virginia families to apply for Virginia SUN Bucks, one of the Commonwealth’s summer nutrition programs that helps families put food on the table during summer break.

SUN Bucks offers eligible families a one-time $120 benefit for each eligible school-aged child during the summer months, when most schools close and children lose access to free or reduced-price school meals. More than 628,000 Virginia children have already received SUN Bucks since the program launched in June — but with nearly 705,000 children expected to be eligible statewide, thousands of eligible families may still qualify. Eligible families are able to apply for this summer’s benefit until August 31.
