Back of the House Tour Brings Hospitality Industry Priorities to New Orleans

AAHOA Leadership, including AAHOA Treasurer Vimal (Ricky) Patel, Gulf Regional Director Mayur (Mack) Patel, AAHOA Ambassador Snehal Patel, and Kevin Sloan, Industry Partner on the AAHOA Board of Directors and managing partner at GMH Claims, joined U.S. Representative Troy Carter (D-LA) for a Back of the House Tour at the member-owned Residence Inn French Quarter in New Orleans.

The visit offered Rep. Carter and Louisiana State Senator Royce Duplessis a firsthand look at the complexities of hotel operations and provided an opportunity to discuss policy issues affecting hotel owners and small businesses. Also in attendance were member-owned Intermountain Management, their regional director Wayne Hendricks, and Lifetime Member Vedant Vasanji.

IN THE MARKET

U.S. RevPAR +1.7% y/y last week; Soft results as expected due to later Labor Day timing

As Truist Securities wrote, "Overall, U.S. RevPAR was +1.7% y/y for the week ending 8/29/2026, per STR/CoStar, below the prior week's result of +4.4% y/y and the 10-week average of +6.5% y/y. The last time Labor Day moved from September 1st to the 7th was in 2015, which also produced a similar pattern to the last full week of August this year of soft comparative results. While hurting last week’s results, we believe the timing will help this week’s results (to be released next week). The later Labor Day holiday disproportionately impacted Transient demand, while Group demand was especially robust; as a rule of thumb if Group results are especially weak or strong, a holiday shift is at play. Daily results highlighted this divergence with Mon-Thurs significantly outperforming Fri/Sat (+8-14% vs. -5-20%, respectively)."
