Molly's Musings: New Year
I don't make New Year's Resolutions. Once upon a time I did, but as they are so easily broken, I didn't want to feel the guilt associated with them. So, what I do instead, is look back on the year and think long and hard about what I liked and didn't like, and then I make a conscious decision to make changes.
It's funny how the turn of a calendar page seems to give everyone a clean slate, a fresh start. To look at it as a cynic, it's just another day. I think, for the majority of people, though, it really is the beginning of a whole new time. The changing of the year is a momentous occasion, a time to celebrate accomplishments and set new goals. A time to look forward, make plans, celebrate friends and family who have made another trip around the sun with you.
The closing of a calendar year is a time of lists: best and worst movies/books/shows. It is a time of remembering those we lost, those we gained, and those who joined forces. I hope 2018 proved to be healthy and bountiful for you, and may 2019 be a year of possibility. Happy New Year!
Molly Baker Veling, Associate Director, Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce

Nub's Nob revives half-pipe, starts night skiing
Back in the hey-day of half pipes, Nub's Nob had a pipe to beat all pipes. Unfortunately, the kids who used the half pipe grew up (or at least gained responsibilities), and for a variety of reasons, the half pipe morphed into a terrain park, with more user-friendly elements for a variety of skill levels.
However, again due to a variety of reasons, the "Christmas Pipe" was born on Christmas Eve, 2018. Take a look, it's a fun
story
.
Nub's Nob boasts all 55/55 runs open for skiing, including the Glades, race arena, and all lifts are running as well. Night skiing started December 26th. Check out
nubsnob.com
for complete snow and condition reports.
If you're looking for a quick, close to home event for New Year's Eve, swing into Nub's for the Torch Light Parade: a spectacle on the slopes, starting at 6 pm on 12/31.

Reminder from City: clear your walks
In a letter dated December 11, new Assistant to the City Manager Andrew Potter reminds business and property owners to keep sidewalks clean.
A synopsis of City Code Section 40.110 is that each building owner/occupant within the Central Business District is responsible for moving all of the snow between the building and the curb TO the curb. Either melt or some sort of grit needs to be applied to ice. If this isn't done, the City may have to take over and bill its time to the property owner.
In short, please help keep pedestrians safe! Click
