Qualicum Beach Time Capsule:
Presented by the Qualicum Beach Museum
Deez Pub
| |
|
Deez was first called the Ben Bow Cafe. Here is a photo of the cafe staff when Frances Hilliard was running it (date unknown). The names of these staff members are: Diane Picket, Colleen Best, Frances Hilliard, Angie Knight and Irene Christopherson.
The coffee shop was associated with the Ben Bow Inn was but added later, probably around 1938. The Ben Bow Inn was destroyed by fire in 1965 but the coffee shop remained. It was bought by Don and Dorothy Higson in 1965.
The restaurant has had a few names over the years, including 'Mustards' in the 1980s and 'Keefers Steak House' early 2000's and then most recently the beloved 'Deez'.

Here's a photo from Deez this Morning! We actually had a chance to chat with Kaitlyn Brennon, Manager of Deez Bar & Grill and this is what she had to say about the new opening of Deez:
"Deez is back and better than ever! We honour the tradition of Deez with a classic menu featuring familiar items and even familiar faces prepping and serving these to you. The cornerstone of causal dining, in Qualicum Beach is back and here to welcome you. Thank you for your support, we look forward to hosting you! "
The Pub is scheduled to open this coming Friday May 19th. We wish Deez the best of luck on their opening.

We'd also like to take a minute and congratulate the team behind saving our beloved Deez Bar and Grill (Eli Brennan, Restaurant General Manager Lynsee Yee, Chef Todd Bright and Kaitlyn Brennon)
They are all local residents and part of the team that have brought you The Qualicum Beach Café, and are just about to launch their new amazing restaurant, The Nanoose Bay Café, scheduled to open in June.
When you are heading to the mainland check their their original restaurant The Water Street Café located in Gastown, and has recently won 'Best BC Wine List' from Vancouver Magazine.
Way to go everyone!
