The Rev, Jason writes ...
O blest communion, fellowship divine!
We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
yet all are one in Thee, for all are Thine.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
(For All the Saints)
Dear friends,
Over the last several weeks, our small groups have studied Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and have discussed what it means to “belong to one another only through and in Jesus Christ.” But one of the mysteries of the Christian faith - something that should be a source of great joy and strength – is that we belong not only to our brothers and sisters who sit in the pew next to us on Sundays, but also the multitude of people, living and dead, across time and space who have confessed the name of the Lord Jesus. St. Paul talks about this in terms of being members of a single body of Christ.
This Sunday at Trinity, we will celebrate the feast of All Saints. This celebration originates in the fourth century, when the early Christians would set aside time to remember those who had been martyred for the Christian faith. And the feast continues today as a living reminder that we are surrounded by a “great cloud of witnesses” whose lives are like a lens, reflecting the love of God in Christ to us even today.
We will begin our 10:30am service in the Trinity Church Cemetery, where we will say a prayer to remember our loved ones who have died over the last year, remembering that for Christians death does not have the final word. Then, as a congregation we will process into the church, singing “For all the saints.” If you can’t make it all the way from the cemetery to the church, no worries. You can be seated and pray in the church until the opening hymn.

This Sunday, we are also introducing a small change to how we conduct children’s Sunday School. Usually, parents drop off their children at Sunday School downstairs in Cox Hall before the 10:30am service begins. Starting November 1st, we are doing something slightly different: Rather than dropping their children off at Sunday School before the service, parents are invited to bring their children into church for the opening hymn, after which I will invite children to follow Ms. Susan and our children’s ministry team in procession to Sunday School.
This will, I think, have a few benefits: For one, it gives our children another opportunity to participate fully in the worshipping life of the church. It also makes it easier for newcomers and visitors, who may have a hard time finding the Cox Hall basement, the chance to experience our wonderful children’s ministry. Finally, it will allow me the opportunity to, on occasion, give a very short children’s homily as part of the 10:30am service before the dismissal to Sunday School.
I look forward to seeing you this Sunday at Trinity.
All my best,
Jason

The names of the faithful departed will be read at all services: 8:00am, 10:30am, & 5:00pm. Please note that the 10:30am service will begin with a short liturgy and reading of names within the Trinity Church Cemetery. Ushers will direct you on your arrival at church.

Vestry Corner
In a new monthly series of updates we bring you brief highlights of recent discussions and decisions from the Trinity Church Vestry ...
- This past month, the vestry unanimously recommended and supported the Rev. Jason Eslicker’s appointment as Priest-in-Charge by the Rt. Rev. Mark Stevenson.
- The vestry welcomed a new member, John Byars, who is filling a vacancy on the vestry following the resignation of Kate Armfield.
- The 2027 stewardship efforts are now in full flight, and we appreciate all members who have prayerfully made pledges for the upcoming year. Your early support of the parish provides a great foundation for the development of our 2027 budget.
- The aggregate funds for the Endowment reached $9.5 million.
- Renew & Restore: Many major projects have been completed, and we look forward to the installation of our new sound system.

The Hunt Country Fashion Show was held at Trinity Episcopal Church as a special fundraising event from around 1950, where it was famously emceed by dancer and entertainer Adele Astaire. It was a significant event, supported by major stores in Washington D.C. and featured each year in the Washington Post and widely in the regional press. The show continued successfully for many decades, finally pulling up the runway around the mid 1980’s.
Anne Coyner is the steward of a fascinating scrapbook archive of records, articles, and photographs of these event which we are currently working to digitalize. Anne is currently gathering opinions and ideas exploring the feasibility of re-starting this event. There will be an open meeting to explore this idea further, on Sunday, November 8th, 11:30am, Cox Hall. Refreshments will be served, archive materials will be available to view, and there will be an open meeting to discuss ideas and possibilities. Come along to be part of this or just to find out more - no commitment required at this stage.
More information from Anne Coyner here or (540) 592-3819.

We were very pleased to welcome this pair of identical twins to the kitchen of Cox Hall, Trinity Church this week! Two new Miele dishwashers have been installed after a major power surge fried an electric panel and our two previous dishwashers. Protections are being installed to prevent a repeat of the incident, and we are thankful for very good church insurance!
Cox Hall kitchen users: Please rinse all plates and dishes before loading them to the dishwashers and select "quick" cycle for all washes - it helps us save water and electricity and ensures that we quickly can get the kitchen ready for the next user. Thank you.

PROJECT NEARS COMPLETION!
Works to extend and remodel the Trinity garage building are almost complete! The completed project will provide additional vehicle garaging, storage, and a dedicated workshop space to support the maintenance and management of the Trinity Church Campus including the Outdoor Sanctuary. We are delighted to be working with our selected contractors Kwon Construction.
It is intended that in the near future, with completion of this project, all maintenance and equipment storage facilities will be relocated to this one, single location at the east of the campus, a change which we hope will help support our vision for a neater, safer, and more cohesive use of our beautiful campus. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
This project has been made possible through the support of the Gerard B. Lambert Foundation and is honor of the life and legacy of Rachel (Bunny) Mellon.

OURDOOR SANCTUARY LOOKS TO THE FUTURE!
Through the munificence of the Gerard B. Lambert Foundation, Trinity Church has received a generous grant award for the revitalization and improvement of the Outdoor Sanctuary at the Trinity Church campus.
In total the grant package is worth $5m, including $1.5m of match funding to be raised by Trinity Church and its wide community of support. The grant is intended to further the legacy of Rachel (Bunny Mellon) and the things that were most important to her during in her lifetime, especially concerning Trinity Church and campus and her passion for environmentalism and ecological conservation and restoration. This follows on from an initial development award from the Lambert Foundation of $180,000 which has funded development of vision and scoping documents, and outline development plans and ideas.

We are truly grateful for the creativity, wisdom, and discernment of the Trinity Church Outdoor Sanctuary group, who, for 18 months have worked with Nelson Byrd Woltz (landscape architects) to bring this project to fruition. With the agreement and support of the Vestry detailed proposals and contracts for year 1 works are now underway, with more exciting developments to follow over the next 5-year period. This major funding also includes the provision to create a new dedicated endowment fund for future maintenance of the Outdoor Sanctuary.
We look forward to this cherished and beautiful part of God's creation playing a significantly enhanced role in the overall ministry of Trinity Church - both spiritually and practically. Watch our social media platforms and other communications for more exciting news to follow.
