Giving Tuesday is just around the corner! Established in 2012, it began as a simple concept: a day dedicated to inspiring people to spread kindness and do good! It’s grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. This year, we hope you'll consider supporting MHO on Tuesday, December 2nd, in support of affordable housing!

Everyone deserves a safe place to call home. The need for affordable housing in our region has never been greater, especially in the wake of Tropical Storm Helene. Support MHO with a gift this holiday season to help ensure more of our neighbors stay healthy, housed, and thriving. Your donation stays local and fuels our efforts to create, repair, and preserve affordable homes for residents of western North Carolina. Together, we are rebuilding hope. Thank you for your support!

On Friday, November 7th, MHO welcomed a group of juniors from the Franklin School of Innovation for an inside look into affordable housing development in Asheville and Buncombe County. The students learned more about the realities of the housing crisis facing Asheville and learned about MHO’s work in developing affordable rental communities, supporting homeownership, and providing essential home repairs. This included more on how Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) works and hearing about the wide range of career paths in affordable housing anyone could pursue! Allison Rollison, our VP/Director of Philanthropy, and Chris Zajac, one of our Real Estate Developers, helped lead the conversation. The visit wrapped up with a tour of our Star Point development, guided by our partners at WEAVERCOOKE! Many thanks to the Franklin School for their interest in affordable housing!

On Tuesday, October 28th, MHO participated in the Power of Prevention, a panel discussion hosted by the Women for Women Giving Circle! MHO President & CEO Geoffrey Barton joined partners from Just Economics, Pisgah Legal Services, and Thrive Asheville for a thoughtful dialogue about the policies, resources, and collaboration needed to help women and families remain safely housed, and the work still ahead in affordable housing development in Asheville. Before the discussion began, we were pleased to take the attendees across the street for a tour of our Star Point development, offering a firsthand look at affordable home development at MHO. We are grateful for the engagement, insight, and shared commitment to ensuring women and families in our community have the housing stability they need to thrive.

We’re raising a glass to our friends at Wicked Weed Brewing for choosing MHO as the beneficiary of their latest Beers that Build release… the beloved Hop Cocoa porter! Every pour of this rich, chocolatey favorite directly supports MHO’s work to create safe, stable, and affordable homes for our neighbors across western North Carolina. We’re grateful for Wicked Weed’s ongoing commitment to building community with us! Head to any Wicked Weed taproom in Asheville and enjoy a Hop Cocoa, as every pint helps build local affordable housing right here at home. Thanks for choosing MHO, Wicked Weed!

A few weeks ago, NeighborWorks America kicked off its annual Community Leadership Institute (CLI), reaffirming the shared belief in the power of resident voices. This year, 60 teams of community leaders came together in Minneapolis to learn from one another, build connections, and strengthen their commitment to making their communities stronger. MHO was proud to be among them, represented by our Resident Services team and Whitley D. English, one of this year’s recipients of the Dorothy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership. Each participating team will receive a grant to support a project of their choosing, which has ranged from cleanups to murals depicting community history to setting up food pantries. These projects are a testament to what’s possible when residents lead the way.

As 2025 draws to a close, we invite you to consider making a financial contribution to support MHO’s work. Your generosity helps us develop, build, and preserve safe, affordable homes. We believe Steve J., an Asheville local and Essential Home Repair client, says it best when speaking on the power of having a safe and affordable home:

"Everybody needs to have a place to live. It's a place to be safe, a place to have your friends come to visit you, a place to make memories. If you don't have a place, what is there?"
