Big Win in Upper Tantallon!

This week’s Bay Treasure Chest winner is Freddie, taking home an incredible $36,415 with his registered number 27305.

Freddie's been a loyal player for 4–5 years, never expecting to be the one who gets that call. Like so many in our community, he plays because he knows the proceeds go right back into supporting local non‑profit groups.

When we reached him with the good news, he was absolutely shocked—and just as absolutely thrilled. In fact, he asked if we were pulling a prank on him!

When asked what he plans to do with his winnings, he didn’t hesitate: “I’ll have to ask my wife, Judi.” Whatever the plan ends up being, we hope it brings plenty of joy.

Congratulations again, Freddie — and thank you for supporting your community through the Bay Treasure Chest!

Good luck in next week's draw

and thank you for your support!

The 250 Vimy Squadron - Royal Canadian Air Cadets

The Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron is a free Canadian youth program for 12–18 year-olds that has been shaping tomorrow’s leaders through mentorship, community service, skill development, and team work since 1941.

The 250 Vimy Squadron is based out of the Estabrooks Community Hall, serving the communities of St. Margaret's Bay, Tantallon, and Hammonds Plains areas of Halifax Region. Cadets train weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9:00 pm from September through June, where they learn about leadership, community service, citizenship, survival training, drill, aviation, band, effective public speaking, fitness and other skills that help transition youth into productive and community-minded adults. In addition to the regular training, they take part in competitions and skill-building activities, and actively volunteer in the community.

There are many activities coming up before the end of the training year! There will be two opportunities for cadets to go gliding, and the 250 Vimy marksmanship team will defend their provincial title. Cadets will learn about aviation during an air skills weekend, attend drill and biathlon events, go camping, take part in an effective speaking competition, attend music training, and end with their Annual Ceremonial Review where scholarships and other awards will be announced. Some of the cadets will then head off to summer cadet training centres as either staff or participants.

It has been a year full of adventure, camaraderie, and achievement!

A Message from BLT Citizens on Patrol

Keeping Your Community Safe

BLT Citizens on Patrol (BLT CoP) plays an important role in supporting public safety across the Beechville, Lakeside, and Timberlea communities. This dedicated volunteer group collaborates closely with law enforcement, keeps a watchful eye on our neighbourhoods, and helps deter crime through their regular patrols and community engagement.

Preventing Theft From Vehicles: Simple Steps Make a Big Difference

Theft from vehicles continues to be one of the most common preventable crimes in our area. BLT CoP and local police regularly emphasize a few simple habits that greatly reduce the risk:

  • Remove all valuables before leaving your vehicle.
  • Avoid hiding items under seats or blankets — thieves know the tricks.
  • Lock your doors and close all windows, even at home.
  • Park in well‑lit, visible areas whenever possible.
  • Report suspicious activity directly to RCMP or Halifax Regional Police.

These reminders reflect BLT CoP’s ongoing efforts to help residents stay aware, informed, and proactive about their own safety.

Our Honorarium Group Is Here for the Community

BLT Citizens on Patrol not only supports the Bay Treasure Chest count but also contributes to the broader well-being of the community through routine patrols and public‑safety education. Their work embodies the spirit of neighbours helping neighbours — a value at the heart of our organization.

As we continue collaborating, we’ll share more community safety updates in future newsletters.

Toonie Tip:

Use the regular BTC stickers and write your number right on them—taped notes just don’t stick. A clearly labelled sticker on your toonie means it gets a real shot at winning!
