Now open on the second floor of the Ferleman Gallery
RootsTable begins with the land. Every plate tells the story of fresh fields, family farms, and growers who believe food should be honest, fresh, and alive with flavor. Our kitchen does not invent those flavors—it reveals them, honoring the work of those who bring them to life.
Check out our menu at https://rootstable.com/menu. The menu shifts with the seasons, just as the farms do. When strawberries reach their sweetest, they will brighten our salads. When the air cools, our soups carry the slow comfort of winter harvests. Each dish arrives with the character of its origin—grown nearby, gathered at its peak, and prepared with care.
Rooted in the land and completed in the gathering, each meal honors the ground that shaped it and the hands that share it.

Are you looking for something more low-key? No problem. We have many pups that would enjoy an afternoon lounging on a couch, a stroll through the neighborhood, or maybe a trip for ice cream. The most important thing is giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization. Cumberland Theatre
101 N. Johnson Street • 301-759-4990
info@cumberlandtheatre.com
• Cumberland Theatre, 101 N. Johnson Street, October 15 - 25 - Martin McDonagh’s Dark Psychological Thriller, The Pillowman. Just in time for the Halloween season, the Cumberland Theatre invites audiences into a chilling world where storytelling, imagination, and reality collide with its upcoming production of The Pillowman, the award-winning psychological thriller by acclaimed playwright Martin McDonagh.
From the playwright behind The Beauty Queen of Leenane, The Lieutenant of Inishmore, and the Academy Award-winning film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Pillowman is a gripping, darkly comic exploration of the power of storytelling, the nature of violence, and the sometimes devastating consequences of the stories we tell.
Set in an unnamed totalitarian state, the play follows Katurian, a writer whose disturbing short stories have attracted the attention of two police detectives investigating a series of gruesome crimes that bear
unsettling similarities to his fictional work. As the interrogation unfolds, the line between imagination and reality becomes increasingly blurred, leading to shocking revelations, unexpected twists, and questions
about the responsibility of the artist. Adding another layer to the production is its haunting, darkly fantastical visual style. Director Nick Hrutkay
draws inspiration from the gothic whimsy and macabre imagination often associated with filmmaker Tim Burton, bringing Katurian's twisted fairy tales to life through striking theatrical imagery. These surreal sequences transport audiences into a world where childhood innocence collides with nightmarish fantasy, creating an atmosphere that is simultaneously beautiful, bizarre, and deeply unsettling.
Equal parts psychological thriller, black comedy, and thought-provoking drama, The Pillowman explores the lasting impact of childhood trauma, the complexities of human nature, and the extraordinary power ofthe written word. With McDonagh's signature blend of razor-sharp dialogue, unsettling imagery, and unexpected humor, the play takes audiences on a journey that is as emotionally gripping as it is intellectually challenging.
Widely regarded as one of McDonagh's most provocative works, the play challenges conventional notions of innocence, morality, and artistic freedom while keeping audiences on the edge of their seats. With its haunting atmosphere, unforgettable characters, surreal fantasy sequences, and surprising moments of dark humor, The Pillowman offers a theatrical experience unlike anything else. Audiences should be prepared for a production that is both deeply unsettling and unexpectedly moving, with a story that will linger long after the final curtain.
Evening performances begin at 8:00 PM, with Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM. Due to mature themes, strong language, and disturbing subject matter, the production is recommended for adult audiences. Get tickets at cumberlandtheatre.com.
More information on ratings, group sales, etc. can be found on cumberlandtheatre.com where single tickets are available for purchase as well as 2025 Season Passes.

About the Show:
Set eight months after the Aberfan Disaster of 1966, in which 144 people were killed (116 of them children), The Revlon Girl tells the real-life story of a group of bereaved mothers who met every week above a local hotel to talk, cry and even laugh without feeling guilty. At one of their meetings, the women looked at each other and admitted how much they felt they'd let themselves go. So afraid that people would think them frivolous, they secretly arranged for a representative from Revlon to come and give them a talk on beauty tips.

• Colby T. Helms & the Virgina Creepers, Friday, November 6, 8 – 9:30 pm. Raised in the Blue Ridge foothills of Southwest Virginia, Helms launched his career as a teenager, writing raw and ragged songs that drew from the people, places, stories, and struggles that shaped him. If his debut album chronicled his own experience, then One for the Losers widens the frame by looking outward. Across a dozen tracks, Helms shines a light on the overlooked and misunderstood characters who've crossed his path, from troubled friends and fallen mentors to moonshiners, immigrants, and working-class Virginians trying to survive in a world that threatens to leave them behind.
"This is a record for people who don’t feel like they have a voice," he says, speaking with a southern drawl colored not only by his Appalachian roots, but by the years he's spent singing at folk festivals, fiddlers' conventions, campgrounds, and dive bars, too. "I wrote my first album while I was still in high school, then I spent a few years on the road, playing those songs every night. One for the Losers delves into what it's like to be a road musician, as well as the characters and challenges you encounter along the way — and some of the ones waiting for you back home, too."
Country. Bluegrass. Folk. Helms' interpretation of American mountain music bears the fingerprints of them all. Largely recorded in Nashville with producer David "Ferg" Ferguson, the album is as diverse as its influences, balancing electric full-band performances with intimate, stripped-back recordings that place Helms' storytelling front and center. For Helms, that balance feels like an extension of a childhood spent on the borderlines, embracing the grey areas between social groups. $15 tickets • $18 at the door: https://loft129.org/events/colby-t-helms-the-virginia-creepers • Shakey…A Neil Young Tribute, Friday, November 13, 8 – 9:30 pm. Back again to the Loft by popular demand! Featuring the artist Briz. Imagine it's 1970 and you're watching Neil Young perform at The Bitter End in the Village, The Cellar Door in Georgetown or at Massey Hall in Toronto sometime in '71! A soulful voice combined with a tremendous gift for songwriting. Briz has been the most consistent presence on the East Coast music scene for the past 30 years, performing more than 200 shows a year at listening venues, festivals, house concerts, coffeehouses, clubs, cafes, schools, libraries, and more. Influences of Dylan, Springsteen and Neil Young can be heard throughout his music as he blends both pop sensibility and folk tradition to create lyrics that are uniquely memorable and music that is commercially accessible yet brutally poignant. "Neil Young and Springsteen influenced songwriter sings sweet, plays hard and delivers a knockout song"-RobLincoln-PASA.
