Preaching Text: Isaiah 61:1-11

Hope among the ruins. Where our scripture from Joel was about God’s people accepting their present situation, Isaiah 61 attempts to move them forward, beyond acceptance to rejoicing. Rejoicing isn’t just feeling happy…it holds the sadness, the grief, the experiences…and then takes a step forward.

Gracious God, thank you for claiming our darkest, most difficult days as belonging to You…for coming alongside. Help us to take a step toward Your love, toward Your plan, toward You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Las Posadas is a Mexican celebration that commemorates Mary and Joseph’s journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. The word posadas is Spanish for “lodgings” or “accommodations”. We will celebrate with St Andrew at GLC on Saturday, December 21 at 6PM.

You are invited to join us in celebrating Jesus' birthday on Sunday, December 22 after the 10:30AM service in fellowship hall.

End of Year Giving

Thanks to all who support the sharing of Christ's love with our community through Geneva Lutheran Church! As you plan your end of year generosity, here are a few reminders:

• Online giving is a great way to give, and giving from a bank account rather than a credit card can help avoid additional bank fees.
• Gifts mailed to the church must be postmarked by December 31, 2024 to be included in 2024 giving statements.  
• Stock Donations and Required Minimum Distribution gifts (for those 73 or older) are also a great way to support our ministry. Talk to Lisa in our office.
