In observance of Juneteenth, the Board of Trustees has honored Black Americans who have made significant contributions to the Village of Tarrytown. On Monday, June 15th, the Board recognized Thomas D. Butler, Jr. for his contributions and service to the community by dedicating a bench in front of Village Hall. He was the first African American Mayor in the history of the Village of Tarrytown, and served on the board for 15 years. Butler has lived in the village for 42 years and retired in the rank of Colonel from the US Army Corps of Engineers, US Army Reserves. If you know him, you know his mantra: "if you take care of the people, the people will take care of you."

Village offices will be closed on Friday, June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.

There will be no sanitation services on Friday, June 19th.

Thank you to all that donated to help save lives with the American Red Cross at the blood drive in the Senior Center this past Thursday!

Highlights from the June 15, 2026 Board Meeting

120th Commissioning of the Tarrytown Boat Club

Several past Commodores were present at the Board of Trustees meeting to talk about the 120th anniversary of the Tarrytown Boat Club which started back in 1906. The purpose of the club was and still is a recreational non-for-profit to provide access for recreational boats, sailboats, jet skis and kayaks. It is also a strategic port for the 66 Coast Guard Auxiliary, since 1940. Currently, it houses the Westchester Police Department and Tarrytown Fire Department Marine Units. During 9/11, it served as a key port where communications quickly shifted from the World Trade Center to the Tarrytown Boat Club. They also host a swim annually from Nyack to the boat club in which over the years, they have been able to fundraise thousands of dollars for various charities.

Please visit tarrytownboartclub.com and you can view the video of the history that was shown here.

Laguna Park Improvements

The Board of Trustees voted to award the bid for the renovations at Lagana Park to Tony Casale, Inc. of Yonkers, NY. The project will consist of site improvements to include site grading, landscaping, fencing, walking paths, playground, pavilion, basketball, tennis and pickle ball courts. 11 bids were received for this project and it was awarded to the lowest responsible bidder for the total amount of $1,689,000, which will be funded in part from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation as well as new borrowing. Next steps are to get the contract signed and a pre-construction meeting scheduled.

Martling Avenue

The Board voted to amend the Tarrytown Village Code to designate Martling Avenue was a snow emergency street on both sides, from Benedict to Prospect Avenue. This means that during a period where a snow emergency is declared by the village, vehicles may not park on the street in this area until the snow emergency has been lifted or while the village is engaged in removing snow.

Commercial Vehicle Parking

The Village Board of Trustees voted to amend various sections of the Vehicle and Traffic Code regarding commercial vehicle parking and parking permits. Residents have been concerned about space in Lot A. The Fire Department has been utilizing space in the Police lot, and the Police/EMS have been utilizing spaces in Lot A. Because of this, the village wants to allow residents additional places to park on lower Main Street, west of White Street and on Cortlandt Street. There is no prohibition about parking commercial vehicles in this area, but there is a provision in the village code that prohibits parking of commercial vehicles for more than an hour from 9:00pm - 8:00am, which is why commercial parking permits will no longer be available for that area.

Sediment Sampling and Dredging

The Board voted to enter into a professional services agreement with KCI Technologies (formally McLaren) for a hydrographic survey, sediment sampling, dredging plans and specifications, permitting preparation and submission, and construction administration for the emergency fire boat at the Tarrytown Fire Department Boat Dock. The total cost of these services would be $115,000 which will be funded in part through a SAM Grant from Assemblywoman MaryJane Shimsky (thank you!) and future issuance of debt.

Records Management Day

The Board authorized the closure of village offices on Friday, August 21, 2026 for Records Management Day. This allows staff to dedicate time to the organization, retention and disposal of village records pursuant to the Local Government Retention and Disposition Schedule (LGS-1). The LGS-1 was issued by the New York State Archives and is the official manual that dictates how long municipalities and school districts must legally keep public records before they can be securely disposed of.

Study of North Washington Street

The Board of Trustees authorized entering into an inter-municipal agreement (IMA) with the Village of Sleepy Hollow to perform a vehicle and traffic study and analysis for North Washington Street between College Avenue and Wildy Street. The Village of Sleepy Hollow engaged AKRF to perform these services in which each municipality will pay $4,500 for the study.

Accounts Payable Meetings

The Board of Trustees shall hold two (2) special meetings on July 6th and August 3rd for the purpose of reviewing and approving accounts payable vouchers in addition to its regularly scheduled board meetings.

Upcoming Meetings

Scam Alert!

There was a recent scam where a Tarrytown resident received a phone call from a person posing as a Tarrytown Police Officer utilizing a phone that displayed Tarrytown Police Department phone number 914-631-5544. The unknown caller asked for the resident by name and knew some personal information about the resident. If anyone receives a phone call from a caller who states that they are an officer of the Tarrytown Police Department and you feel the phone call is suspicious, ask the caller for his/her name and ascertain any additional information from the caller that you can and hang up the phone. After disconnecting the call, please call the Tarrytown Police Department at 914-631-5544 and report the incident.

Con Edison Update

There will be no work by Con Edison crews on Friday, June 19, 2026 due to the holiday. For the week of June 22, 2026, Con Edison’s crews will be continuing their work as follows:

  • Work will resume in Tappan Landing on Monday June 22, 2026
  • The Broadway gas main work is done but there are some service connections that have to be connected, so those will require future intermittent traffic impacts
  • Church Street service work will continue, with 5-10 service connections remaining

Fire Hydrant Flushing and Testing

ValveTek Utility Services is in the area performing Fire Hydrant lubrication and flow and pressure testing. They started on the South End and working their way through the village with testing approximately 20 hydrants per day. By doing this service, it helps extend the asset life of the hydrants, reduce long-term maintenance costs and builds a dataset for future capital and operational decisions.

Phase 8 Water Main Replacement

The contractor, Paladino, will begin mobilizing on Monday, June 29th, which includes organizing, transporting and setting up the necessary personnel, equipment and materials.

Parking passes will be available to residents only in Mckeel Lot between 7am-5pm for a 4 week period. Residents can expect daily road closures Monday - Friday on Hillside Place as work begins.

Advisory from your Tarrytown Harbormaster, Kevin Lustik

With the 250th year of Independence soon to celebrated, there are important things to be considered. If you are a boater and heading for NY Harbor during any of the displays, you must not approach any Military ship within 100 yds when it is stationary or 500 yds when it is underway. It is a Federal violation and will be met with force After a warning has been issued by Marine radio Channel 16 by the Coast Guard or any other enforcement authority having jurisdiction, namely Homeland Security, NYPD and and USCG unit. All agencies will be monitoring from waterborne craft in addition to extensive helicopter air units. When a security zone is announced on channel 16 or 22, it must be adhered to. The Hudson River corridor will be part of an OP Sail and various air shows for a few soon to be announced days.

Please enjoy this Boating Season and Celebrate the 250th!

Washington Irving Parking Lot

During the summer construction period at Washington Irving School, the WI parking lot will not be available for community use. The lot will be needed to support construction activities, and equipment staging. We appreciate the community’s patience, understanding, and support as we work to improve our facilities for the benefit of our students and schools.

The Village has been participating in a demand response program through Sustainable Westchester over the last few years, and this past year was recognized as a top revenue earner. Demand Response involves reducing energy usage during a few peak times during the year, usually on the hottest of summer days, when energy use is atits peak and it is challenging for the utilities to provide enough to meet the demand. On peak days they have to turn to the dirtiest most expensive form of power generation to meet the demand, so it is in their interest to incentivize customers to reduce usage. Tarrytown earned $5,839 through its participation. Regular households can also participate. Interested in signing up? Visit the Grid Rewards program through Sustainable Westchester.
