Local Leaders Learn and Network at

Bayou Region Nonprofit Conference

Bayou Community Foundation event draws over 100 local nonprofit reps to sharpen skills and develop new partnerships.

Over 100 nonprofit leaders from organizations in Lafourche, Terrebonne, Grand Isle and beyond participated in Bayou Community Foundation’s 6th annual Bayou Region Nonprofit Conference August 8 at Fletcher Technical Community College. Sponsored by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, American Red Cross – Louisiana Region CAP, Louisiana Alliance of Nonprofits and Fletcher, the theme of this year’s conference was “Power Tools for Nonprofits,” with a focus on communication, digital and management tools to grow and strengthen nonprofit efforts.

“As part of our commitment to build nonprofit capacity, Bayou Community Foundation is always delighted to bring local nonprofit leaders and volunteers together to sharpen our skills, learn new tools and make powerful new connections at our annual conference. This year was another home run!” said Bayou Community Foundation Executive Director Jennifer Armand.

"I walked away with practical strategies and new connections that will greatly benefit my work with Friends of Bayou Lafourche.”

- Amy Hebert, Executive Director, Friends of Bayou Lafourche

The conference opened with a presentation by Dr. John LaJaunie, Professor of Finance at Nicholls State University, on harnessing the power of AI to increase nonprofit effectiveness. Breakout sessions focused on building a fund development plan, creating mission-driven strategic plans, financial management, and developing the “perfect pitch” to explain the work of a nonprofit and appeal to potential donors. The day culminated with an interactive afternoon keynote by Certified Diversity Executive Tonya Scott Harrris, Founder of LEADERtique, on building inclusive communities.

In addition, the Terrebonne Parish Library System offered free headshots to attendees.

“Bayou Community Foundation's Nonprofit Conference was incredibly insightful!  I walked away with practical strategies and new connections that will greatly benefit my work with Friends of Bayou Lafourche. It’s empowering to see so many like-minded individuals working together to strengthen our community, said Amy Hebert, Executive Director of Friends of Bayou Lafourche.

Additional Bayou Community Foundation nonprofit workshops and programs are scheduled throughout the year. Visit www.BayouCF.org for more information as events are announced.
