Have you seen the red admiral butterfly yet? This butterfly migrates to Iowa when it warms up and can overwinter here as well. For food, red admirals prefer tree sap and rotting fruit, while their caterpillars rely almost entirely on nettles for their food source. To see these spring-time beauties, take a walk in moister areas, especially woodlands and shady parks!
