Dear friends,
I hope everyone has had a fantastic week coming off of the heels of our Spring Break.
These past few weeks have been a blur of activity at FASTB. Leading up to break we enjoyed a fantastic Spring Festival, as well as our first Grandparents and Special Friends' Day. Both events were a joy to see, and I want to thank everyone who made these events possible.
Looking forward, we are very excited for our upcoming Olympic Games at Fort DeSoto, which will be taking place on April 11th. Be on the lookout for more details next week as we put the final touches on this whole school outing.
In this edition of the News de Nous you will get to follow our Kindergarten class on their capstone outing for their IB Unit on "How we Express Ourselves", get a sneak peak into classroom projects for "La Semaine de la Francophonie", see the arrival of our new interns in the classrooms, as well as look back at some of the memorable events we have had at FASTB so far this Spring.
I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful weekend, and I am greatly looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
Warm Regards,
Colin LeBihan
School Director

On March 19th, FASTB's Kindergarten class had the chance to participate in a thrilling dance event organized for grades K-6 sponsored by "Duke Energy Center for the Arts" at the Mahaffey Theatre.
The event was a high energy outdoor and indoor interactive experience, where students explored diverse dance styles.
Our students learned from different choreographers who showcased different steps, styles and dances ranging from LATIN, HIP-HOP, BOLLYWOOD and JAZZ dances.
Mixed with students from other schools, the event was an opportunity to be a part of a community that celebrates culture, creativity and the joy of dance.
We also had a dance party with a light robot who challenged the students to do the Limbo.
Aside from a chilly morning, we had the perfect weather to enjoy the rest of the day…dancing facing boats and sea, we sure love Florida.
This event was the perfect day for our Kindergarten class to end their second IB UNIT: HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES where the central idea was as follows: “our body is an important medium for communicating different emotions, ideas and feelings “.
This unit was very rich of experiences, practices and special events.

Semaine de la Francophonie
La Semaine de la Francophonie, is an event which takes place each year around March 20th, and is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the French language and Francophone cultures all over the world.
At FASTB, we decided to take a closer look at the upcoming Summer Olympic Games in Paris, and celebrate all of the francophone nations taking part in the event!
Each of the students in the MS classroom worked to illustrate what a "Champion" in their favorite sport would look like. The sports they chose ranged from hockey, "football"/soccer, basketball, to sports such as Judo and Canoeing.
In the PS classroom our students were posed the question:
"Do we speak French only in France?"
The students answered saying that it was not the case! Because we speak French in Paris! This gem aside, they also stated that we speak French in all of the other French Schools around the world.
So where else can we speak French?
To illustrate their discoveries, the PS class worked to create an Eiffel Tower that displays the flags of all the countries where we can speak French.
To tie their inquiries into the current IB unit, the students created the iconic French landmark out of seeds from their unit "How the world works".
Please make sure to stop in and check out all of the amazing displays made by all of our classes this coming Monday, March 25th at pickup (3:00pm-3:20pm)

IB Unit on Gardening in CP
After building a new vegetable garden, the first graders sowed carrots, beets, zucchini and melon seeds. They quickly observed and marveled at the germination process, the leaves of the seed and then those of the plant.
In this way, they learned about the plant's needs and life cycle, as well as the importance of plants in every ecosystem and the need to care for and protect them on a daily basis.

Upcoming Fort DeSoto Trip
We are greatly looking forward to our upcoming Olympic Games to Fort DeSoto!
This event is scheduled for April 11th, and should the weather take a turn for the worse, a rain date has been reserved for April 19th.
A special message with all of the event details will be sent out next week!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day
I would like to send a thank you to everyone who made the time to join us at FASTB for our first ever Grandparents and Special Friends' Day.
This event was a resounding success, and we are greatly looking forward to welcoming everyone back again next year.

First graders learned about the artist Frida Kahlo, using her self-portraits with parrots as inspiration for these beautiful artworks.
Fourth, fifth and sixth graders are currently working on a cross-curricular art project, inspired by the 'Where I'm From' poems they studied and used as a prompt for their own writing.
"The Tree of Life", Stoclet Frieze, 1905 by Gustav Klimt
In art this week, they observed and discussed Gustave Klimt's 'Tree of Life' work, before using their poems about their identities and family histories, to create their own Klimt inspired family trees.

Arrival of our new Interns: Camille et Enola
After having arrived late Monday night, our new Interns: Camille et Enola, from the Université de Brest Occidental, arrived at FASTB on Tuesday to explore the campus, and meet our wonderful students.
After having gotten acquainted with the campus, Camille and Enola have integrated wonderfully into our classrooms, assisting our students and teachers throughout the day.
I would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to Camille and Enola for joining us here at FASTB, and also to the wonderful families that opened their homes to welcome them throughout their time here at FASTB.
Please join us on Tuesday, March 26th
Café et Conversation
8:30 AM - 9:30 AM
Under the Tiki Hut! - All are welcome!
Join us for casual coffee gatherings that bring teachers, parents, and school administrators together in an informal setting. These meetings hold significant importance in nurturing communication, cultivating connections, tending to queries, and establishing a school atmosphere that is both encouraging and accommodating. Café et Conversation gatherings present an opportunity for cooperation and shared comprehension that proves advantageous to students, parents, and the entire school community.
