We arose at 0530 this morning and under way by 0550. The air temperature was 46 degrees. The sun had not risen and the just passed "super blue moon" was setting over the rocky shore of Cape Chapeau Rouge as we left the entrance of Great St. Lawrence Harbour. (See photo above.)
Thankfully, the winds had moderated and clocked around into the north. It has been blowing 15 to 20 knots on our starboard beam for most of the day, creating glorious sailing and near perfect conditions for us as we begin the passage across the Cabot Strait. The wind is up and down at times; but we have been averaging just over 6 knots of boat speed.
We are back on our watch system; one of us sleeps and prepares meals while the other sails the boat. Our roles swap every four hours during the day and every three hours at night. I went to the bow to get a shot of David back at the helm. I took another quick selfie of me happy at the helm as Tazzarin sails across a sparkling sea.
We have been visited by six pods of dolphins today, their quick movements making photography tricky. Dolphin visits are good luck on a passage. We are making good time while this breeze holds. However, it is due to lighten and eventually go more on our bow by tomorrow. Halifax is now about 310 miles to our west. We hope to be there by mid-day Monday.
