Ready, Set, Glow at the Lantern Parade!

The popular springtime event returns to Morgan Falls Overlook Park for the ninth year on Saturday April 13. Admission is free. Prior to the parade, participants will gather in the Steel Canyon Golf Club parking lot and enjoy music, food trucks, and children’s activities. Pre-parade activities begin at 6 p.m. Want to make your own lantern? There are two lantern workshops on April 6 at City Springs, in Studio Theatre at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The workshops are $25. To-go kits will be available during the workshops and range from $7 - $25. You must register in advance at citysprings.com/lantern. 

It's Time to Shop the Farmers Market!

Once again it's time to add the Sandy Springs Farmers Market to your shopping list! The market re-opens for the season on Saturday, April 20 at 8:30 a.m. and will feature beloved fan favorites and introduce new vendors to the market.

City Green Live Returns This Month!

City Green Live, the City's free, Friday night concert series returns Friday, April 26 and will run monthly through August. Indie, folk-rock Shovels and Rope kicks off the series this season. Invite your friends, grab a drink, and enjoy live music under the stars!

City Launches SSPD Foundation

The City is pleased to announce the establishment of the Sandy Springs Police Law Enforcement Non-Profit Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting our law enforcement officers and strengthening public safety initiatives. Sandy Springs Conservancy Trail Blazers Walk

Join the Sandy Springs Conservancyfor their next Trail Blazers walk on Saturday, April 13 at 8:30 a.m. for a sneak peak of the first section of the Springway trail that is currently under construction. The walk will be led by Sandy Springs Conservancy Board Chair Jack Misiura and Board member Terry Morris. Registration is required and space is limited.

Mount Vernon Highway and Johnson Ferry Intersection Improvements Underway

Work is underway for the Johnson Ferry/Mt Vernon Improvements project. This TSPLOST-funded improvement project will improve vehicular and pedestrian mobility and reduce congestion by alleviating the bottleneck conditions for east-west traffic on Johnson Ferry Road and Mount Vernon Highway and north-south traffic on Roswell Road. Both roads will be widened to each contain eastbound and westbound lanes. For project updates and the latest road closure information, please visit the project's page on the City's website.

The Gallery at City Springs

Join us for a reception on Thursday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. in the City Hall lobby for the next exhibit featuring Goldstein Art Photography. Meet Jody and Cary Goldstein, the artists behind the lens, and learn more about their work. There will be hors d'oerves and a cash bar. This exhibit will run until June. The Gallery will be open during City Hall's business hours.

Itzhak Perlman In Recital with Rohan De Silva

April 9 at 7 p.m. 

No violinist captures and conveys the joy of music more beautifully than Itzhak Perlman, the undeniable reigning virtuoso of violin. In this extraordinary recital, he is joined by longtime musical partner Rohan De Silva in a program celebrating the classical tradition, featuring Perlman's insightful and modern mastery of the violin and De Silva's ingeniously fluid accompaniment.

Grimmz Fairy Tales

April 18 at 7 p.m. 

A hip-hop revelation for the younger generation! Meet Jake and Will, modern-day hip-hop street performers, bringing the stories of the Brothers Grimm to life with a contemporary spin, as they turn records and dance circles around some of the most famous and beloved fairy tales collected by the famous German brothers of old.

Bird Walk at Overlook Park

Saturday, April 6 from 8 a.m.

Morgan Falls Overlook Park boasts several habitats, and thus a large variety of birds over the course of the year: mudflats (shorebirds, including Avocets in 2017), lake (winter ducks, nesting Bald Eagles), river, woodland, and field (sparrows). The walk will involve (possibly wet) grass, stairs, gently sloped pavement, and unpaved trails. A scope and loaner binoculars will be available. The walk will begin at Overlook Park - walk past the playground and across the lawn to the overlook - and continue the walk to Morgan Falls Dam.

Adaptive Fishing

Friday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Join us at Morgan Falls Dam Pier (lower parking lot in front of the dog park) on Friday, April 19 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for a fishing event. In partnership with Empower Therapy, Catalyst Sports, and the Department of Natural Resources, participants will have access to adaptive fishing equipment designed for individuals with limited hand function.

April's Wild Explorers Events

Wild Explorers - Flower Power

The Wild Explorers program returns this month with a series of interactive programming. On Friday, April 5 from 6-8 p.m. celebrate Flower Power! Join us a for a walk at Lost Corner Nature Preserve and learn about early spring flowers and explore the many types of pollinators in our forests and gardens. Let Mother Nature be your muse as you make your own coffee filter flowers!

Wild Explorers - Eclipse Day!

The Wild Explorers program continues and on Monday, April 8 from 2-4 p.m. at the Morgan Falls Overlook Park Lawn we will watch the partial eclipse of the sun. We will provide safety viewing glasses for this event, so interested people must register so that we have enough for everyone!

Wild Explorers - Flower Scavenger Hunt

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 13 from 8-10 a.m. for a Flower Scavenger Hunt. This event will feature a naturalist-guided hike and scavenger hunt on the trails at Lost Corner Preserve. Learn what it takes for a plant to grow and plant your own flower to take home.

Wild Explorers - Earth Day

The Wild Explorers programming in April concludes with an Earth Day Celebration! Join us at Big Trees Preserve on Monday, April 22 from 4 – 6 p.m. Enjoy a naturalist-guided hike through the woods as we learn about mature forests and how we can protect these majestic trees. We will create native seed bombs to throw in the home garden. This is an ideal family event. All programs are weather permitting.

Paint Like Bob Ross

Complete a Bob Ross painting in just one class, even if you have never painted before! On Saturday, April 13 at 10 a.m. at Hammond Park Community Building, Bob Ross Certified Instructor Jeremy Rogers will walk students through, step-by-step how to paint a beautiful scene. This is a light-hearted painting class totally focused on creating beauty and having fun!

After School Soccer

After School Soccer is a coed soccer program for children from Pre-K to 5th grade. Locations include Dunwoody Springs, Lake Forest, Spalding Drive, Ison Springs, and High Point Elementary schools. The season literally kicks off with practices (drills consisting of dribbling, passing, shooting, etc.), children will be placed on teams, given a team t-shirt, and begin playing against each other on-site, after school.

Bats are weird, wonderful and often misunderstood! They are essential to a healthy ecosystem and play a big role in insect control, pollination and seed dispersal. Join Roseanne Guerra, a liaison with the Georgia Bat Working Group as she educates us about all things bats! Including which species live in Georgia and the many ways to attract these helpful creatures to our yards!

Abernathy Arts Center Happenings

Spring art classes start the week of

April 9, 2024. Adult classes include watercolor, acrylic and oil painting, drawing for all levels, embroidery, knitting and specialty workshops in the daytime, evening, and weekends. Plus, there are great after-school options for kids ages 6-18! Check out the full class catalogue.

Registration for Summer Art Camp at the Abernathy Arts Center is OPEN! Join us for amazing creative journeys this Summer in seven (7) weekly sessions from June 3 through July 26. Campers ages 6-12 years can sign up for morning, afternoon or all-day sessions. For more information or to register.
