A SPLASH OF COLOR

& COMMUNITY SPIRIT

A little rain couldn't wash away the fun! Originally scheduled for September 26th, Maple Shade's Color Run was rescheduled to October 17th, bringing the community together for a colorful day of fun, laughter, and excitement.

Participants of all ages enjoyed a vibrant celebration filled with bright colors, smiling faces, and plenty of community spirit. A special thank-you to everyone who adjusted their schedules, participated, volunteered, and helped make this event a success.

It was another wonderful reminder of what makes Maple Shade such a great place to live, work, and play!

WALKING TOGETHER FOR HOPE MAYOR'S CANCER WALK

On Sunday, October 18th, our community came together for the 2nd Annual Mayor's Cancer Walk, a meaningful event dedicated to raising awareness, honoring those we have lost, celebrating survivors, and supporting those currently battling cancer.

It was a beautiful reminder of the strength, compassion, and generosity that define Maple Shade. Every step taken represented hope, encouragement, and solidarity with those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who walked, volunteered, and supported this special event, including VFW Post 2445. Together, we continue to show that no one in our community walks this journey alone.

TERRACE AVENUE IMPROVEMENTS COMPLETE

Another infrastructure improvement project is officially in the books!

We are pleased to announce the completion of the Terrace Avenue infrastructure and roadway improvement project. With underground infrastructure work completed and the roadway freshly repaved, Terrace Avenue has received a much-needed upgrade that will benefit residents for years to come.

These improvements reflect the Township's continued commitment to investing in our neighborhoods, maintaining essential infrastructure, and improving the quality of life for our residents.

Thank you to the Terrace Avenue residents for their patience and cooperation throughout construction!

WATER MAIN BREAKS KEEP TOWNSHIP CREWS BUSY

October brought unexpected challenges for Maple Shade's water infrastructure, with two significant water main breaks occurring just two weeks apart. The first occurred in the early morning hours of Friday, October 16th, along Route 73 at Fifth Street, followed by a second break on Saturday, October 31st, at the intersection of Rockland Avenue and Estate Road. Both incidents required a coordinated response to address the damaged water mains, manage disruptions, and restore normal service as quickly and safely as possible.

While Maple Shade, like many established communities, has aging underground infrastructure, we have been fortunate to experience relatively few major water main breaks over the years. However, these recent incidents serve as an important reminder that even well-maintained infrastructure requires ongoing attention and investment. Discussions and preparations are already underway to address the underlying concerns and develop plans for more permanent repairs at these locations.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our Public Works, Water Utility personnel, emergency responders, and the contractors for their efforts, particularly during overnight and weekend hours. We also thank our residents and motorists for their patience and understanding as we continue working to maintain a safe, reliable water system for our community.

KEEP BATTERIES OUT OF

YOUR RECYCLING BIN....HELPS

PREVENT FIRES

Did you know that improperly disposed batteries can cause dangerous fires at recycling facilities? Burlington County is reminding residents that batteries should NEVER be placed in household recycling bins! Lithium-ion and other rechargeable batteries, commonly found in cell phones, laptops, power tools, toys, and other everyday electronics, can spark or ignite when crushed or damaged during the recycling process. These fires put recycling workers, equipment, and facilities at serious risk.

Proper battery disposal is everyone's responsibility! Rechargeable batteries and other hazardous batteries should be taken to designated battery drop-off locations, including participating Home Depot, Lowe's, and Staples stores. Residents can find additional collection locations at www.batterynetwork.org/locator/.

Regular, non-rechargeable alkaline batteries (AAA, AA, C, D, and 9-volt) may be placed in household trash, as outlined in Burlington County's guidance.

Remember, not all hazardous batteries are clearly labeled, so when in doubt, check before throwing them away. By taking a few extra moments to dispose of batteries properly, we can help prevent fires, protect our sanitation and recycling workers, and keep our community safe!

WATER & SEWER

FALL HYDRANT FLUSHING

Maple Shade Utilities have conducted their annual fire fall hydrant flushing program. All hydrants were flushed and needed repairs corrected.

At this time, we would like to thank the residents for their cooperation during this period.

WATER UPDATE

An ROV inspection of the 1-million-gallon water tank on Rt 73 was performed and was reported to be in good condition with recommendations provided to support future maintenance planning.

We hope everyone is enjoying the early fall!

SEWER UPDATE

Sewer main improvements are underway on selected sections of Main Street. Test pits have been completed, and materials and manholes have been ordered. Survey crews have been on-site marking out the selected locations, Mobilization and work are scheduled to begin in early November.

The Main Street Pump Station force main replacement project remains a priority. Phase 1 is complete, and Phase 2 is currently under evaluation for future funding opportunities.

Fall 2026 sewer main flushing is ongoing to maintain sewer lines and help prevent backups. Please use caution around crews and slow down when personnel are working in the street.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this maintenance.

SERVICE LINE INVENTORY UPDATE

The Lead Service Replacement project has been ongoing throughout the Town for most of September. Roman E&G Corp. has completed outreach to most residents with lead or galvanized service lines to obtain and perform the necessary service work. Roman will contact residents, if they have not already done so, to schedule service replacement.

If you received a letter and have not been contacted or have questions about this work, please reach out to Roman E&G at 201-687-1096. If you are not sure of your service line material, we keep a comprehensive list of service line materials and can also confirm if you are not sure.

Under NJDEP regulations, all water systems must identify the service lines that provide water to residential and commercial buildings. In 2022, the Township sent two rounds of letters asking customers with unknown service line materials to contact the utility and schedule an appointment.

COMMUNITY SAFETY REMINDERS

👀HELP PROTECT OUR YOUTH SPORTS FACILITIES

Maple Shade Township invests significant resources in maintaining athletic fields for our young athletes. Riding e-bikes, ATVs, or bicycles on playing fields can damage surfaces, lead to costly repairs, and force field closures that affect local sports programs.

If you witness this activity, please call the Maple Shade Police Department at

856-234-8300 while it is occurring so officers can respond. Parents and guardians are encouraged to review New Jersey’s current e-bike laws with their children and reinforce safe, lawful riding.

🛍️HOLIDAY SHOPPING & TRAVEL SAFETY

As the holiday season approaches, lock your vehicles, keep shopping bags and valuables out of sight, and arrange for prompt package pickup when possible.

When traveling, allow extra time, buckle up, stay attentive, and always plan a sober ride.

⏰9:00PM ROUTINE

Before turning in for the night, check that vehicles, doors, and garages are locked, remove valuables from cars, and turn on exterior lighting.

A quick check can help reduce opportunities for theft.

🦴A NOTE FROM K-9 RIPLEY

Thanksgiving is for sharing gratitude—not every food on the table!

Keep cooked bones, onions, chocolate, and rich or fatty scraps away from pets.

Give furry family members a quiet place to relax when guests visit.

Wishing Maple Shade a Safe and Happy Thanksgiving!
