Kamisha's Corner!
Happy Fourth of July everyone! This month’s article is about the Fourth of July. Enjoy! Why is the Fourth of July so important? The Fourth of July is not just a holiday, it’s a time to remember those who gave up their lives to protect us and those who continue to give up their lives every day for our freedom. I can’t say thank you enough for everything you have done and continue to do for us. I have so much gratitude and appreciation for every single one of you! I salute you! Sending love and good vibes your way!

Words of Encouragement
If ever you feel or see an obstacle in your way, never be afraid to break every single part of it down! You are stronger than you think!
July Birthdays
Calling all July babies out there!! This is your time!! This is the time to show the world how amazing you are! You are always in control of your future! You are a beast! Don’t let anyone tell you differently! I wish you nothing but peace, love, joy, and happiness!

Self-Care
Hello to all my kings and queens out there! I just wanted to bring this to everyone’s attention, now more than ever. Even though we are in an unpredictable time right now, I believe that it’s really important to keep an open mind and take the time to do whatever is truly important to you; at the end of the day, you and your well-being are what truly matters.
🎉Congrats!!!🎉

A huge congratulations goes out to Richard Berman for giving The Red Sox Foundation 10 years of service! You should be very proud of yourself!

Project Updates
Supported Decision Making (SDM)

It’s been a month for Supported Decision Making. We welcomed Chester Finn to help with our work as a Samuel Centre Fellow for the Summer. We held Feedback Sessions on June 9th and 30th to see how the SDM Form we made works for others. Anne attended the Mass SDM Coalition meeting to prepare for a hearing on the bills (SDM bill S.124/H.272) this summer. Our task force is going to create video and written testimony as a group. We held a regular meeting on June 23rdand in July we will hold five more feedback sessions. We are learning so much and enjoying having Chester with us to help make SDM an option for more people.

MASS Rights for Change/OVW

Thank you to John Mullaly, Pauline Bosma, and Brian Kelly, as well as all
of the supporters on the team, for your commitment to the work of
helping survivors of abuse!

Our MASS team and our partners, Pathways for Change and Victim
Rights Law Center, have come up with some great ideas and useful
tools that we can offer in the future, to make services more accessible
for sexual abuse survivors with intellectual and developmental
disabilities.

Our next project will be presenting the “Survivor Support Packet” that
our team created at a National End Abuse Webinar on July 20th.

Please click the link below to register to attend the presentation on July 20th from 1:30 PM -3:30 PM:

LEND Program
The LEND Program is seeking a self-advocate with a disability to take part in the LEND fellowship that runs from September 2021 – May 2022. Massachusetts residents with developmental disabilities who are no longer in school or a transition program are eligible to apply.

LEND stands for Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities. The LEND Program is a joint initiative of Boston Children's Hospital and the ICI. The program provides interdisciplinary training for a diverse group of fellows from disciplines including social work, psychology, developmental medicine, audiology, occupational therapy, nursing, public health, genetic counseling, child development, and education. Participants include parents of children with disabilities and self-advocates (people with disabilities who are finding ways to increase their independence and speak up for their goals). Self-advocates often bring a support person with them to the program.

For more information or to apply, please contact: Lauren.Berman@childrens.harvard.edu
