Diamondbacks selected as mascot of Davis High School | | |
When students voted for the mascot of Davis High School, they chose a clear-cut winner in demonstrative fashion, selecting the Diamondbacks with 83.5% of all responses.
Northwest ISD announced the mascot for the new school, the district’s fourth comprehensive high school, during a topping-out ceremony on Friday, September 25. The reveal marked the culmination of a design process following a vote from more than 1,000 middle school students in May. Prior to the student vote, a focus group of students met with Dr. Ron Myers, principal of Davis High School, to generate potential mascot names.
That student group discussed the characteristics of each proposed mascot and the qualities they hoped to represent the school for academics, athletics, fine arts and beyond. Ultimately, two options were presented to students: the Aviators or the Diamondbacks, with the latter option receiving tremendous support.
