The Link: April 2026

Monthly News from Washington Park United Methodist Church

From Reverend Sandi

Friend of WPUMC

As we head into the season after Easter, we each have an opportunity to consider what Jesus’ life and death means for each of us. Does it matter? Does it make a difference in our actions, our words, our relationships?

In the New Testament – Jesus death and resurrection wasn’t the end of the story. Luke tells of a group of people who encounter the risen Christ on the road to Emmaus. The gospel of John shares stories of Thomas, who could not believe that Jesus was alive, and of the resurrected Jesus who not only helped his disciples catch some fish, but shared breakfast with them on the beach.

These stories matter, because they explore the struggle of people trying to understand the events of Easter, even as others seemed to move on without much thought. How could such an amazing and powerful thing happen, and still the world around us seems largely unchanged? Even in the struggle, God did not leave God’s people alone. Through the risen Christ and the later gift of the Holy Spirit, God remained close, offering guidance and care.

As we enter this space, may we be open to God’s leading and how God equips us to live in a broken world, finding hope and wholeness in the one who never leaves us.

News

Washington Park UMC is staffing a shift at Network Coffee House (1402 N Pearl St) on May 10 from 11 am to 2 pm. Network Coffee House is a place where Denver's unhoused population can stop for a cup of coffee, take a shower, and relax. They need volunteers to serve coffee, chat with customers, and help manage the coffeehouse. It is a great opportunity to not just do just ministry for, but ministry with our unhoused neighbors.  Volunteers younger than 16 years old are not permitted. Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult guardian. Click the image below, or You can sign up here.

Our Hands to Yours are asking for your help providing clothing to children in need in the metro Denver area. They are a group of women who collect clothing for people in need, often working with Food Bank of the Rockies and We Don’t Waste to identify appropriate families in need. Many of the children they serve are infants, preschool or elementary age and could use shoes, trousers, dresses, tops, coats and sweaters. Other kids are junior and high school age and need many of the same things. Our Hands to Yours has no overhead, is all volunteer, and we would be honored to find homes for the clothing you can donate. You can drop off the clothes starting April 5th outside the church office. The drive ends May 4th.
