Dear Friends of AHP,
The Medicinal Plants Names Service at Kew Gardens is the most comprehensive listing of plant names in the world and is an incredible open access resource for all involved in the world of botanicals. Kew is expanding their offering to include information regarding botanical safety, constituent profiles, and conservation status of plants and are asking for guidance on what is needed by those involved in the trade of medicinal plants.
Please see the following communication from Kew and take the time to complete their 6-minute survey which will help shape the development of a database that has the potential to serve the entire medicinal plant industry.
Many thanks,
AHP Staff
Do you need reliable data about plants and fungi?
Does your organisation manufacture supplements, herbals, nutraceuticals or cosmetics using plants and fungi? Are you concerned about the properties of these organisms and the quality of products derived from them? Is QA an issue with plants being substituted or adulterated? We wish to help.
Health products derived from plants and fungi employ a bewildering array of names used ambiguously, imprecisely and inconsistently across continents and disciplines. Professionals seeking information about the plants and substances and needing to interpret this information correctly face challenges leading to poor decisions impacting on public health or R&D investment.
Even those aware of these terminological challenges may spend significant time searching for the names to use to find all data about clinical trials, chemistry, toxicity or adverse reactions etc.
Plants for Health has mapped the trade, common, pharmaceutical and other terms employed in the literature and legislation for natural products to Kew’s modern comprehensive & authoritative scientific references of plants and fungi. We offer information services to professionals working across medicine and nutrition, including a free-for-use data portal.
We are designing value-added data services aimed specifically at manufacturers, suppliers and retailers in the health food industry.
We seek your guidance to help shape these new services.
Please take our survey at https://research.typeform.com/to/tm01ZezU/. This takes approx. 6 minutes.
Thank you.
