RE-FORMING OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, WITH THE EARTH, & WITH EACH OTHER

Peace to you,
Over the past month, summer has gradually wrapped up in the Village. The whole Village participated in the start of the new school year. Fall colors have begun to appear on tops of trees and rainy days are becoming more frequent. A smaller population means Snack Bar and Pool Hall hours begin to wind down for the season. Not to worry, though – Holden Scoops continue in the Dining Hall in the winter! In just a few weeks, Villagers will begin to winterize buildings and chain firewood to keep us warm this fall.
We hope you enjoy these stories and images from the past month at Holden!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL CELEBRATED IN TRUE HOLDEN FASHION
Take a look at this year’s famous first day of school shenanigans! The 9 Holden School students were picked up by the school bus (and a very cranky driver) at the top of Chalet Hill. On the way to school, they were stopped on the way by a handful of shenanigans by Villagers hoping to delay the start of the school year. The bus, equipped with a highly trained chock and cone safety crew, encountered cart-driving troublemakers, characters from the Hobbit, an acoustic performance of "The Wheels on the Bus," mad scientist teachers showing off a bubbly experiment, housekeepers mopping the road, a whale, and more. When the bus finally arrived, the kids ran through a tunnel of cheering community members into the school. What a year it will be!

SUPPORT HOLDEN VILLAGE
YOUR ONGOING STEWARDSHIP SUSTAINS THIS PLACE OF EDUCATION AND RENEWAL FOR ALL PEOPLE
This summer, Holden was again filled with the spirit that has carried this place apart for decades. Music, laughter, and community filled the Village, as well as thought-provoking conversations led by renowned teaching faculty from around the world, joined in the spirit of Unity of Love. It is our hope that Holden Village may continue as a place for civil conversation, for learning to listen deeply to one another, and for finding hope in our world.
As we move forward, we face a number of challenges. Now, more than 80 years after their construction, the buildings that have held thousands of Villagers need your help so that they can continue to support the rhythms of this place. Fire safety and continued maintenance of structural safety remain a top priority and plans are in place to complete a number of safety upgrades. But
we can’t do this without your continued support, whether that be
financial gifts
or the gift of your time and skills as a
volunteer
. We need your support to complete these projects and ensure that the Holden Village remains a safe place for all to gather in conversation and community!

BLESSING
This day may you know this joy in full measure.
This day may you know this blessing that gathers you in and sends you forth but will not forget you.
O hear us as this day we say grace; this day we say grateful; this day we say blessing; this day we release you in God's keeping and hold you in gladness and love.
