| | 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan Workshops - Next Week (LRTP) | | |
The MPO is kicking off its public involvement for the 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) in April. The LRTP is perhaps the most important document that we produce at the MPO. The LRTP guides the feasibility of the work program for the next 25 years.
If you care about the roads you drive on, the placement of new proposed roads, and/or wish to advocate for new transportation improvements, we would love to see you at one of our 5 workshops.
The 5 workshops are scheduled at a variety of times and locations to enable input from the largest proportion of the community possible. This plan is your plan, but you can only help shape it if you engage with us!
If you can't make it to one of the workshops, please email MPO@indianriver.gov with any thoughts you may have.
We look forward to seeing you next week.

GoLine and its operator, the Senior Resource Association (SRA), was recently featured in Business View magazine. We are delighted to see all of the hard working folks who ensure that our public is able to access mobility options across our community be recognized.
The article is artfully written and provides insight into the human side of transit. Often public transportation is conflagrated to be a narrow logistical operation, yet it was wonderful to read how SRA frames their human impact. One specific section of the article, "Transit as a Community Connector: Vision for the Future," was especially provoking:
The impact of public transportation isn’t just about moving people from point A to point B. “One of the things people don’t think about is that public transportation is vital to keeping communities connected and economies thriving,” Stephenson reflects. “Even people who don’t rely on public transportation rely on people who do.”
This ripple effect makes transit systems like GoLine essential infrastructure for community vitality. “Whether it’s a big urban system or a smaller, very specific system like ours in Indian River County, whenever public transportation delivers economic opportunity, whenever it’s functioning at its highest, it can be transformative to communities,” says Stephenson. “I like to say public transportation is a vehicle for change,” he adds.
For Deigl, the mission remains deeply personal. “My statement has always been that I want to be able to provide transportation so individuals have a better quality of life,” she says. This drives her forward-thinking approach: “We are always thinking ahead, thinking what is the need in the community? How can we better provide services to the community?

| | Korky's 100th Birthday Celebration! | | |
A recently retired member of the MPO's Citizen Advisor Committee (CAC), Clarence "Korky" Korker, just celebrated his 100th Birthday! Korky represented the City of Fellsmere on the CAC for over two decades, which is a further example of a life lived in service to his community and country at large.
Frequent visitors to the CAC may recognize Korky from his distinctive U.S. Navy ball cap which commemorates his eight years of service in the U.S. Navy.
Happy Birthday to Korky from the MPO. Cheers to many more!
