Why We Pledge

In the church world, we often assume everyone knows what we mean. We say things like “Lunch is in Baird” or “The youth are at Montreat,” not realizing our shorthand may confuse those new to our community. So, this stewardship season, let’s be clear about what we mean when we say it’s time to “pledge.”

A financial pledge is an estimate of the financial support you expect to give our church in the coming year. For example, if you estimate you can give $200 a month in 2027, your pledge for 2027 would be $2,400.

In the fall of 2026, you make your pledge by submitting a paper pledge form or completing one electronically at www.fpcauburn.org/pledge.

Our Finance Committee then gathers all pledges received by November 1 and uses that information to prepare a proposed 2027 budget for the Session (our board of elected elders) to approve. This budget guides how we allocate resources to support ministry and mission in the coming year. Without a clear picture of how much money we can expect to receive, we cannot plan responsibly.

Your pledge is confidential and can be changed at any time. We understand that circumstances sometimes change. If you have an unexpected expense or a change in employment, you can contact our office administrator, Kathy Rushing, at any time to update your pledge.

In addition to financial pledges, we also encourage pledges of Time and Talent. Each member of your family can complete a paper or digital form to express interest in serving on a church committee or volunteering for individual tasks, such as ushering on Sundays or helping clean up after fellowship meals.

Every pledge we receive helps us respond to the gift of God’s grace that we know through Jesus Christ and participate in God’s work of Grace in Action. We are grateful for every pledge of support we receive this stewardship season!
