Renovation Begins to Celebrate Centennial

Estimated reopening in fall after Phase 1

The time we've all been waiting for is here!

Books and program materials are being packed up. Early exterior projects are underway - the chimney work is done and the front doors are in the midst of a "spa-like treatment." The buzz of tools for pre-construction work can be heard.

Our Founding Mothers of Crestwood Library would be so proud.

Their dream that opened Crestwood Library in 1926 is now getting an investment by the City of Yonkers and New York State to celebrate our 100 years of community service.

DETAILS

• Library is closed starting Aug 17 for Phase 1 of a two-phase renovation.
• Our library is expected to reopen in early fall for basic services
• It is estimated the library will temporarily close again for Phase 2 in late 2027
• Check construction website for updates

$1 MILLION PROJECT FUNDED BY

• City of Yonkers
• New York State Aid for Library Construction

PHASE 1 IMPROVEMENTS

• New energy-efficient windows throughout building
• New carpet & interior painting on the Main Floor

PHASE 2 IMPROVEMENTS (late 2027)

• New ADA-accessible restroom, wheelchair lift & ramp

PATRON SERVICES

Use your Yonkers Library Card at any of the 44 locations in the Westchester Library System (WLS).

• Return items and borrow materials at any WLS library including Yonkers' own Grinton I. Will Library (10 minutes by car from Crestwood) or Riverfront Library
• Attend in-person programs at Will and Riverfront, and other WLS locations
• Be on the lookout for special field trips with Profesor Val Franco and Gotham Bat Conservancy. Check website for schedule
• Join select virtual programs still being run in conjunction with Yonkers NNORC and Friends of Crestwood Library. Check the online calendar
• Crestwood Book Drop Box Closed Until Reopening
• Compost Box Available
• Fiber Arts/Knitting Group to meet at Will in their conference room - Wednesdays 3-5pm in August and September. Stay tuned for October plans!
• Chess players welcome at Will. Check website for schedule

HOLDS

If you place a hold before Crestwood closes or if you want to place a hold during the closing you need to change your pickup location Online or By Phone

• Online

1. Locate your pending holds (under your library account -> Titles on Hold), and change the pickup location to any WLS location
2. If you place holds during the closure, select any WLS location when creating the hold

• Over the phone

1. Call the Will Library reference desk at (914) 457-1820 and request for your hold pickup location to be changed from Crestwood to any WLS location

RETURNS

1. Any items borrowed from Crestwood Library with due dates during the closing will have their due dates extended until we reopen
