Y's Men Co-Sponsor Panel on the Future of News

Y's Man John Brandt introduces the journalists to a packed Trefz Forum at The Westport Library.

On Sunday at The Westport Library the Y's Men welcomed a panel of renowned news journalists, as well as Senator Richard Blumenthal, for a discussion about the state of news reporting and the impact of social media on current and future generations.

Arranged by and moderated by Y's Men Past President John Brandt, the panel, featured noted reporters John Berman of CNN, Alisyn Camerota and Dave Briggs, formerly of Fox and CNN, local reporter Dan Woog of "06880,"and Senator Blumenthal, who provided the congressional perspective. They delivered an honest, even emotional discussion, about increasing concerns over the accuracy of the news and information we are exposed to every day.

The Staples High School Journalism Department participated, led by faculty members Mary Elizabeth Fulco and Joseph Del Gobbo, and Staples Inklings journalist students Nina Bowens and Lily Hultgren, providing information on their program as well as their view of news and the role it plays in informing younger generations.

The panel was extraordinarily effective in delivering their views and recommendations, totally locking in a full house of 400 attendees. A Q&A session followed, and the participants stayed afterward for additional one-on-one conversation. All-in-all, an outstanding local event.

Thank you to John Brandt and team for organizing and delivering a great and important event.
