The Winston School celebrated Spirit Month with an exciting Field Day today that united students through a variety of competitive activities. Teams participated in events such as Base Run, Musical Chairs, Basketball, Soccer, Frisbee Toss, Water Balloon Toss, Strike a Pose for Points, and Egg Relay. Each activity encouraged teamwork and school spirit, with students cheering for one another throughout the afternoon. The event culminated in a tallying of points, fostering a sense of community and anticipation as we finish the remaining days of Spirit Month. A full recap will be posted in next week’s edition.

In this issue, we celebrate Spirit Month with Sports Theme Day and Field Day highlights, showcasing student enthusiasm and teamwork. Check out the photos capturing the energy of these events, and see what's next with our updated Spirit Month Calendar.

We spotlight our community impact with a successful Student Council food drive for the San Diego Food Bank and recognize our student volunteers at Winston Corner. There's also a recap of the inspiring San Diego College of Continuing Education field trip for our 11th and 12th graders, plus the latest culinary adventures. We look forward to our upcoming Día de Los Muertos celebration, where students and staff honor the memories of loved ones. We introduce Ms. Sarah, our new counselor, and highlight the achievements of our advanced math students.

🎉🏅 Spirit Month Highlights! 🏅🎉

On Wednesday, Winston went all out for our Sports Theme Day! 🏀⚽🏈 From jerseys to headgear, our students and staff showed off their team spirit and favorite sports in style. 🙌 Whether it was repping their favorite players or channeling their inner athletes, the energy and enthusiasm were off the charts!

Thanks to everyone who participated and made the day such a slam dunk! 💥🏀 Keep the spirit alive as we continue celebrating!

Last Week! Student Council advisor Mr. Nunley delivered nearly 134 pounds of food to the San Diego Food Bank this week. Let’s finish strong during the final week of Spirit Month by showing our support for the Food Bank with an even bigger haul! With such a tight race to the finish line, you can quickly rack up points for your team!

We were thrilled to welcome our Winston School Board of Directors to campus on Tuesday evening! The board had the opportunity to meet our dedicated school leadership team, which shared their goals and priorities for the year ahead. They also engaged with our capital campaign fundraising partners, Netzel Grigsby Associates, and took a tour of our nearly completed classroom building. It was an inspiring evening, showcasing our collective commitment to enhancing the educational experience at Winston!

On a Monday morning tour of the San Diego College of Continuing Education at the Educational Cultural Complex, our 11th and 12th College & Career Readiness students had an inspiring experience exploring cutting-edge programs in welding, automotive technology, and HVAC–heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. Students engaged with passionate instructors, learning about hands-on training and career pathways in these vital fields. They witnessed state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, gaining valuable insights into the skills needed for success in today's job market. This enriching visit broadened their understanding of vocational education and ignited excitement about potential future careers in trades crucial to our economy.

Tenth graders Roy T., Asher E., and Gabe W. are working on an advanced-level math challenge in Ms. Cristal’s Integrated Math 2 class.

The first student recipe we've used for a culinary demo is picadillo empanadas. A special shout-out to 12th grader Aiko V. (bottom left corner) and her family for contributing!

The Student Council pizza fundraiser was tremendously successful on Thursday, with students eagerly lining up for Oggi’s Pizza. Thank you to our parents for their support and the students for coming with their appetites!

Join us in celebrating Día de los Muertos on November 1, 2024, a vibrant tradition honoring our dearly departed with love and remembrance. One of our generous parents who wishes to remain anonymous has beautifully crafted an ofrenda adorned with colorful flowers, candles, and cherished mementos that reflect the essence of this meaningful holiday.

In addition to the ofrenda, she has also decorated our staff lounge and brought in sweet treats for the staff, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Students are encouraged to bring pictures of their loved ones to display on the ofrenda, allowing us all to share the joy of remembering those who have touched our lives. Let’s come together to honor and celebrate the memories of those no longer with us!
