BREAKING NEWS

Corruption Surpasses Inflation as Top Midterm Flashpoint

WASHINGTON D.C. – The midterm elections definitely have everyone sitting on the edge of their seats. The bottom line is the control of Congress, which is currently hanging in the balance of the outcome. Another revelation about the midterms came in mid-October when a Fox News Poll reported that government corruption has surpassed inflation as the number one concern for voters nationwide. An overwhelming 88% of registered voters expressed deep worry about the issue, with 60% declaring themselves “extremely concerned.” Because this anxiety completely crosses traditional party lines, analysts have labeled it a uniquely bipartisan force.

We are getting closer to a day that most Americans want. I suspect every time we go to the grocery store, we think about what might be. Each experience we have at the gas pumps, we want the day to come sooner. Well citizens of our beloved nation, election day is close. Can you feel it? The anticipation of it almost rivals a holiday.

While in Florida for the past week, I enjoyed Florida A&M University’s Homecoming on so many levels. When I wasn’t in deep discussions about “back in the day,” there were a two other issues that we talked about. At the top of the list, it was a toss-up between voting and Nolan Wells. It seems like I wasn’t the only one hoping for some flips, especially in Florida, Georgia, and Texas.

For Elijah Lee, protecting the environment has always been about what’s happening close to home. He grew up in a predominantly Black, low-income community in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, and went to school next to a paper mill that filled the air with pollution. He always wondered why it seemed like the only employment option for people in town. Now, as data centers expand in Virginia, where he moved as a teenager.

Mindfulness meditation or tai chi can help cancer survivors feel better, a new study says. Patients had less pain, fatigue, and sleep problems after participating in mindfulness sessions or ancient Chinese mind-body practices of tai chi and qigong, researchers reported Sept. 16 in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. “These findings reinforce the value of a whole-person approach to cancer survivorship care,” said senior researcher Peter Wayne, director of the Osher Center for Integrative Health at Mass General Brigham in Boston.

DAILY REMEMBRANCE

The darkness of death presses me down.

Tricked into believing that there is no way out of this sadness.

Although, the silence allows me to find myself and actually remember things that I had forgotten.

Memories that at the time were moments that I took for granted.

Thoughts that surface to bring light to all too dark days.

All this gifted to me for recall when I forget.
