Happenings!

Changing of the Guard!

Randi Pupkin, our Founder and longtime Executive Director, has announced that she will retire in June 2025 and a new Executive Director has been selected. “After pouring my heart and soul into this work for 25 years, I am honored to pass the leadership to someone who knows the organization inside and out – namely, Megan Gatto, Art with a Heart’s Deputy Director. Megan began her Art with a Heart journey nearly ten years ago when she was hired as a Program Coordinator and has worked hard over the years to learn the business of nonprofits and the work of Art with a Heart. Megan started as Program Coordinator and grew to become a Co-Program Director then, Program Director and in 2023 became the Deputy Director. Megan is extremely talented, energetic, creative and nimble. She is ready for the challenge of leading this incredible organization. I am thrilled that she will be leading Art with a Heart into the next era.”

Save the Date! We're turning 25!

It's hard to believe that Art with a Heart has been a creative and impactful part of the Baltimore community for nearly 25 years! Amazingly, what started as four classes each week has grown to nearly 16,000 in the last year.

Art with a Heart will officially celebrate 25 years of making Baltimore better on Saturday, March 29th at 6:30pm with a fabulous party at the M&T Bank Exchange at the Hippodrome Theatre and we want you to be there, so please save the date!

Book Talk was a Great Success

We had a great book event this month, featuring Art with a Heart volunteers, Jacquie Toner, Richie Frieman and Ken Weiss. They each spoke about their recently published books, did a Q&A, signed books, and mixed and mingled. Thanks to all of the guests who joined us and also to Golden West Cafe for donating the most delicious sweet treats. We are grateful that The Ivy Bookshop attended the event with copies of the books available. All three books are available for purchase at The Ivy or your favorite local shop or online retailer.

Programming

Art with a Heart student artists are jumping right into the fall with autumn tree paintings and festive shape monsters. Participants are gaining valuable knowledge of the principles of art by learning about shapes, patterns and 3D forms, all while exploring their own creative identities. After school programs have started in full swing and we are excited to welcome back familiar faces along with many new partnerships, including: Callaway Elementary School, Clay Hill Public Charter School, Baltimore Station, and The Arc.

Community Art and Service

The Community Art and Service team had a busy month! Wonderful service groups, volunteers, and interns have been filling the space and helping to move several community art projects forward. When complete, "The Enduring Heart Mosaic" will be installed in the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center in collaboration with MC3 and AstraZeneca. Stay tuned for progress photos.

Also this month, the Art with a Heart team engaged with neonatal intensive care nurses at Mercy Hospital to create ceramic elements for a new mural. The meaningful "Mother and Child," mixed media project will be installed in the NICU waiting room at the hospital.

In additon, Art with a Heart completed and installed two new mosaic signs for KIPP Elementary and Middle School's brand-new Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation libraries, and a mosaic tree tapestry for Jewish Community Services.

Art of Leadership

Art of Leadership Cohort 10 enjoyed their first full-day retreat! The day was packed with adventure, team-building activities at Outward Bound plus meaningful discussions, and creative expression. Highlights included overcoming fears on the high ropes course, bonding through engaging games, reflecting on identity, and creating masks that represent both the visible and hidden aspects of who we are.
