Welcome to Carpe Datum’s weekly newsletter, the Federal Data Prospector, the only publication of its kind dedicated exclusively to data and analytics companies that share our passion for serving the public sector. Our featured items begin with the Department of Transportation's efforts to improve transportation system data for safety and efficiency. The effort focuses on identifying data gaps, advancing AI use cases, and supporting future AI-enabled transportation applications.
In other data news, on February 2nd, FedScoop published an article entitled Bipartisan House duo wants Treasury-led push to fight identity theft, fraud. In this story, Matt Bracken describes how a bipartisan House bill would task the Treasury Department with leading a national effort to combat identity theft and fraud by funding state-developed, voluntary digital IDs aligned with NIST standards. The legislation signals expanding federal demand for identity verification, fraud analytics, and secure digital identity infrastructure across government programs.
-
"It is important that Congress responds to the growing wave of identity theft and fraud in the United States by strengthening our digital identity infrastructure," Foster [Bill Foster, D-Ill] said in the press release, adding that the legislation will "provide states with the support they need to safeguard Americans’ personal information and strengthen consumers’ ability to protect themselves against identity theft and fraud."
