NEW ORLEANS, LA — Data News Weekly has endorsed Judge Camille Buras for re-election to Section H of Orleans Parish Criminal District Court.
“Judge Buras has demonstrated a commitment to managing cases efficiently while protecting the rights and dignity of those appearing before her, said Data News. “Her record provides voters with an opportunity to evaluate the importance of experience, judicial independence, and consistent leadership in maintaining public confidence in the criminal justice system.”
Joseph “Scoop” Jones founded Data News Weekly more than 50 years ago to cover Black New Orleans, and it has done that every week since. Its endorsement slate for the November 3 election also includes Jamie Davis for U.S. Senate and Congressman Troy Carter.
“Data News Weekly has been telling this city’s stories for longer than I’ve been on the bench, and I’m grateful to have their support,” said Judge Buras. “People come into my courtroom on some of the worst days of their lives. I owe every one of them a fair hearing and a judge who’s paying attention. I’ve worked to give them that, and I’d be honored to keep doing it.”
Judge Buras has also been endorsed by Mayor Helena Moreno, former Mayor Marc H. Morial, and other city leaders.
Early voting ends today, October 27th. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
Judge Buras is available for media interviews.
