World Backup Day
Today, March 31, is World Backup Day and that seems like a great time to remind everyone of the importance of backups. Backups should be a priority in every organization. If a file gets deleted, a natural disaster occurs, or a network gets hit by ransomeware, it's with good backups that time and money can be saved and business as normal can resume in a much more timely manner.
What should I be backing up?
Well, really everything. Primarily, you will want your business critical data backed up. Whether this includes backing up a specific computer, a server, multiple computers, etc., this should be a top priority for any organization. If a file being lost would halt operations or otherwise severely impact the work to be done negatively, it should be backed up.
Traditionally, this is done through the backup of a server, but each organization is different. With more and more companies moving to cloud services, these files may also be stored in locations like SharePoint or OneDrive. As a result, it's no wonder that many organizations have also begun to complete backups of their 365 data, as well.
Of course, individuals are advised to keep backups of their own data, as well. It's never a bad idea to keep backups of your home PC and/or your cell phone in the event there's ever an issue with something like that.
