Rise Up!
Serve as a National Board Member

The WILPF US Board elections are coming this fall. Are you an activist who wants to spread your leadership wings? Consider running for any of the five open board positions. We seek candidates with special qualities of passion, clear sightedness, and leadership abilities. Elected board positions are for three-year terms, but two of the openings in this election (details below) are to fill only the remaining two years of their terms.

Help guide WILPF's future by making policy decisions and taking actions for program, membership building, and fund-raising! Through the board you can meet other committed WILPFers, develop respectful working relationships, and participate in the deliberations on and passage of the annual budget and other decisions.

Applications (by email) must be received by Sunday, August 13, 9 pm your time.  A minimum of 24 months of WILPF membership is required to qualify for the board.  The openings are the following:
  • Program Committee Chairs: There are two positions. One chair will serve for three years and the other for two years, to finish a vacant three-year position.
  • Secretary
  • Personnel Committee Chair (to serve for two years to finish a vacant three-year position)
  • At-Large Board Member
Application Deadline: Sunday, August 13

Your Input Welcomed and Wanted on Some Changes for WILPF US

Both the world and the circumstances of WILPF US are changing. To help our organization be responsive to those conditions -- and to WILPF members -- the ad hoc Bylaws Committee is considering some changes for WILPF members to vote on this and/or next October. Also, changes could clarify language in the Bylaws or implement practices to make WILPF US more effective.

Any Bylaws changes on the ballot will be explained in detail. For now, below are some ideas. What do you think? Do you have alternatives to suggest? What seems to you to be missing? Please send your input to nominatingcommittee@wilpfus.org by August16.

We are always open to your ideas! Input after August16 will still be welcomed and considered, but it is unlikely to be acted upon for this year's ballot.

These are examples of the kinds of ideas and areas for changes we're considering:

Address some issues related to standing committees:
Add the Treasurer as an assigned member of the Development Committee
Require a minimum number of standing committee meetings per quarter

Change the method of board decision making:
Move from requiring consensus to approve a decision to a super majority (such as 60%, to match the quorum percentage)

Better co-ordinate the annual changes in board membership:
Start the term of the new International Board Member on the November 30 following the International Congress

Increase flexibility:
If we are too short of funds or there are other serious obstacles, provide for the possibility of some alternative(s) to holding an in-person WILPF US Congress every three years

Clarify language:
Clarify that the requirement for serving on the WILPF US board is to be a WILPF US member for at least 24 months immediately prior to the date of installation on the U.S board

Our structure and procedures should help us work more smoothly -- without long or complicated Bylaws! You can see our current Bylaws here. Please help us move toward that goal with your ideas. We look forward to your input!

We look forward to hearing from you!
