Dear Rising 12th Grade Families,
This letter is to inform you of the immunization requirements for students entering their senior year of high school in the state of Ohio. All seniors are required to have received two doses of the Meningococcal vaccine at the age of 16, with a minimum interval of eight weeks between doses, prior to entry into grade 12 (if the first dose was given on or after the 16th birthday, then only one dose is required). The Meningococcal vaccine prevents bacteria that is commonly spread from person to person, especially in teens and young adults. These bacteria can cause meningitis, which is an infection of the fluid and lining surrounding the brain and spinal cord but can also enter the bloodstream causing sepsis.
Please contact your healthcare provider to schedule an appointment to receive the Meningococcal vaccine or any other vaccines your child should need for the upcoming school year.
