Introducing our New Director of Youth Ministries
We are thrilled to announce that All Saints’ has called Hope Westervelt to be our new Director of Youth Ministries. For the past six years, Hope has served as Director of Youth Ministries at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chattanooga, TN.
Hope grew up in Macon, GA, attending Christ Church and has worked both at Camp Mikell in this diocese and at camp Grace Point in the Diocese of East Tennessee. A graduate of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, with a major in childhood development, Hope brings a wonderful combination of energy, experience, and organization to her ministry. She is married to Brian, an engineer, and will be joining All Saints’ in January giving time for a smooth transition in her current parish.
Here is a word from Hope to our community:

November 7 is All Saints' Sunday and confirmation day. We will be joined by the Rt. Rev. Robert C. Wright, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese Atlanta. By the laying on of hands, he will be confirming more than 50 youth, as well as adults, who have completed preparatory courses.
This ancient tradition provides an opportunity for youth and adults to make a mature, public affirmation of faith — saying "Yes!" to following Christ and to living into our shared baptismal covenant.
Everyone is warmly welcome to attend these services at 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. on November 7!

FAQs
What to wear?
- A range of attire is acceptable, from "business casual" church clothes, to formal "black tie" attire. Red (symbolizing the Holy Spirit) and white (symbolizing baptism) are particularly thematic colors for the liturgically minded. :)
What role will parents and adult mentors play in the service?
- Parents and mentors will:
- Join the procession into the church
- Stand and "present" the youth altogether at the designated time in this service (a brief speaking piece, together with all other parents and mentors).
- Join the youth confirmands at the front of the church as the bishop lays hands and prays over each.
- We will go over all this at the rehearsal dinner. Specific instructions will be sent to those who cannot make it.
What if a youth participant cannot attend the mandatory rehearsal dinner?
- Exceptions will be made for youth with prior commitments or extenuating circumstances. Please complete a registration form and indicate that you are not able to attend. Parents and adult mentors will be emailed specific instructions in advance of the service.
What if I have lost touch with my mentor/mentee?
- No need to feel bad or awkward -- it has been a long pandemic! Now is the perfect opportunity to reconnect. Please reach out to one another and catch up! Let Rev. Zack know if you need help getting in touch.
- Additionally, an alternate adult may stand in at the service in the absence of of one's official mentor. Mentor names will not be printed in the bulletin, so there is some fluidity in this regard.
What if I am a parent and/or adult mentor of multiple youth?
- We will walk through logistics at the rehearsal and provide emailed instructions ahead of time. It will take some attentiveness on your part, but we promise we won't leave anyone hanging! We hope to create an atmosphere of prayerfulness and love as we support our young people taking this step in their journey of faith. There is no need to feel nervous or tense.
Will the service be broadcast?
How can I help?
- In addition to youth acolytes, we could use adults to help serve food at the rehearsal dinner, as well as folks to help out at the check-in table on Sunday. Contact Rev. Zack if you'd like to help out!

A PRAYER FOR THOSE TO BE CONFIRMED
|
|
O God, you prepared your disciples for the coming of the Spirit through the teaching of your Son Jesus Christ: Make the hearts and minds of your servants ready to receive the blessing of the Holy Spirit, that they may be filled with the strength of his presence; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
