Think about the young people you care about.
Your children and grandchildren. The students you teach. The athletes you coach. The patients you care for. The kids in your family and community.
One in 300 youth has an undetected heart condition that puts them at risk for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA), and up to 50% of children who experience sudden cardiac arrest show no warning signs. Knowing the risk factors and warning signs, encouraging heart screenings for early detection and being prepared to recognize and respond to SCA can make a lifesaving difference.
October is National Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, and Crimson for Kids is our call to action to help protect and save young hearts.
The Crimson for Kids Toolkit includes information and resources to take action:
- Learn the warning signs and risk factors of an underlying heart condition.
- Know your family heart history.
- Learn about heart screening with an electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) as a baseline test.
- Recognize sudden cardiac arrest and know how to respond with: Call-Push-Shock.
- Get trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) use.
- Make sure the places where young people learn, play and gather have an accessible AED and a cardiac emergency response plan (CERP).
Help us turn awareness into action throughout October.
Going crimson starts a conversation. Every conversation we start has the potential to inspire action that protects a young heart.
We can help protect and save young lives. Let’s paint the country crimson!
