California's state budget for (today,) 2026-June 30, 2027 has been enacted. We haven't had time to pour over everything but based on what we know and suspect, Imagine's budget for the same period is on the correct policy foundation.
As long-term readers know, Imagine relies on Marty Omoto and CDCAN to support our advocacy and provide insight.

Jessa is one of those people who lights up a room with her kindness, positive energy, and adventurous spirit. She has a genuine heart for others and always takes the time to care about how people are feeling. Whether she's encouraging a friend, supporting a coworker, or simply making someone smile, Jessa has a special way of making people feel at ease. Family and friendships mean the world to her, and it's easy to see how much she cherishes the people in her life. She loves staying active and can often be found hiking with friends, enjoying the outdoors, and embracing new adventures. No matter what she's doing, Jessa is always cheering others on and inspiring them to be the best version of themselves.
One thing we especially admire about Jessa is her incredible work ethic. She successfully balances two jobs with grace, dedication, and a smile. No matter how busy life gets, she always gives her best, and it doesn't go unnoticed.
If you've ever talked with Jessa about baking, you know how passionate she is! She loves creating delicious desserts, especially gluten-free and dairy-free treats. If chocolate or peanut butter is involved, she is definitely in her element!
Right now, we're especially proud because Jessa was in Minnesota representing Northern California in swimming at the Special Olympics. What an amazing accomplishment! She competed with her team with the same determination, heart, and positivity she brings to everything she does.
Jessa, thank you for being such an important part of the Imagine family. Your kindness, encouragement, and dedication make a lasting impact on everyone around you. We're incredibly proud of you and so grateful to have you on our team. We can't wait to cheer you on in all the exciting adventures that lie ahead!

Spotlight on Change:
Accountability plus support makes growth
| | |
One of our clients at Imagine has experienced tremendous growth over the past several months. After recognizing that some of his online interactions were affecting his personal safety, he worked with his family and support team to develop a plan that aligned with his goals and supported his success. As part of that plan, he temporarily stepped away from internet access to focus on building the skills and confidence needed to make safe, informed decisions online.
He took an active role in creating agreements that helped him identify unsafe situations, establish personal accountability, and guide his decision-making. Through dedication, self-reflection, and consistent effort, he has strengthened his ability to recognize appropriate conversations, think critically about online interactions, and make choices that align with his personal values and safety goals.
Today, he has successfully regained internet access by demonstrating his commitment to using technology safely and responsibly. He continues to engage in open conversations with his support team, reaches out for help when he feels additional support is needed, and remains dedicated to creating a safe and meaningful life on his own terms. His journey is a powerful example of how self-determination, the right supports, and perseverance can lead to lasting and meaningful change.

Victor Mendoza is a Housemate who works great with his client Daniel. Daniel has woken up from his bedroom and asked for Victor, "Where's Victor?"
From the family perspective, they are super happy and grateful to have staff who has a great relationship with their son like that. From our perspective, we are also seeing all the client and staff relationships, and we love it when clients have relationships like that. This relationship has allowed Daniel to grow and be more patient when he is being pushed into more uncomfortable situations.
Some other things to appreciate about Victor include his sense of humor. His ability to stay light when things are hard seems to have added a lot to Daniel's sense of safety. In turn, we have seen that as Daniel feels safe, he feels confident and when he feels confident, he accomplishes things that seemed out of reach not long ago. Whenever we know Daniel needs to go through something difficult, we try to make sure Victor is on duty.
Victor is a builder with regard to Daniel's life and program. He looks for and finds ways to make the activities that matter to Daniel easier for him. Not only are we, and you, seeing Daniel more involved in more community activities but we're seeing him love it. Victor has been a big part of helping that to happen.
Victor is also very flexible with his time when Daniel needs help for Doctor appointments or shifts that need to be extended to allow for family visits.
Thank you, Victor, for all you do for Daniel and the team and for being awesome!
[Editor's note- he also serves as Imagine's professor of Gen Z slangology. That's hard, Brodie.]
