5 health story ideas to write this fall

Vaccine fatigue is real, but there are multiple angles to explore when covering health issues in your community this fall.

Prominent health experts Dr. Tina Tan and Dr. Leana Wen joined a National Press Club Journalism Institute webinar to share what journalists need to know about vaccines and current health issues.

Here are five story ideas to consider:

  • Describe the risks that different respiratory illnesses pose to people of all ages and how vaccines can help prevent these diseases.
  • Report reasons behind why there is not more uptake in vaccines and treatments in the vulnerable populations within your community. Answer: What are the barriers for members of your community getting updated vaccines?
  • Share the successful programs in your community that have increased vaccination rates, or create resources that share where vaccinations are free or low cost.
  • Explain the risks for developing long COVID symptoms and how vaccines can prevent this.
  • Answer: Within your community, how has vaccine fatigue related to COVID spilled over into routine vaccination rates?

CAREER

Understanding roles can improve your team's culture

“When a person uses mean words, harsh tones, crosses boundaries, or actively drives humiliation, it’s clearly harmful. No one should work under those conditions. Misuse of power should be processed and brought through HR or other appropriate channels. But when work behavior is annoying, the framework of role-to-role relationships can help us make sense of our reactions so we know how to respond. Sometimes roles, like a CEO and CFO, have tasks that clash. Employing the principles of role-to-role relationships can help teams step into those conflicts with less emotional stress, that sticky stuff that clutters workplaces and reduces their efficiency.”
