Bestselling Author Nelson DeMille, and Son Alex DeMille, Peak about Their Latest Thriller The Deserter

New Canaan Library presents a special evening with #1 New York Times bestselling author Nelson DeMille and his son, screenwriter Alex DeMille, introducing their just released thriller The Deserter. The authors’ talk will be followed by a Q & A.

The event is presented in partnership with Simon & Schuster. Those who register for the event before October 25th may bring their registration confirmation to Elm Street Books for a 10% discount on The Deserter at the bookstore or at the event.

Halloween Spooktacular

We’ll learn about and meet some creepy critters who remind us of All Hallow's Eve (spiders, bats, snakes, & more), before getting the chance to make our very own slime.

We’ll wrap up the evening by enjoying a spooky & interactive Halloween story and a one-of-a-kind jack-o-lantern experience.

We’re opening our 73rd season as New Canaan’s community theater with Edward Percy and Reginald Denham’s Ladies in Retirement.

In this compelling mystery/drama a former actress, Leonora Fiske, and her long-time companion and housemate, Ellen, become involved in competing schemes that grow more sinister after the arrival at their home, of Ellen’s two sisters.

COMBINE-X Fitness and BODYMECHANICS will proudly sponsor the first in a series of self-defense workshops, 24MOVES with Pro MMA Fighter: Becca Moore.

This free event will kick off the #girlpushup movement at CXF aiming to empower youth girls in our community.

Sign up your girls, 12-18 years old, for the demo and instruction with Becca and learn the 24 moves used to act effectively in self-defense.

Ponus: The Man & The Monument Presentation

Date: Sunday October 27th

Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm

Location: New Canaan Museum and Historical Society, 13 Oenoke Ridge

Patricia Funt Oxman, who has given tours of local cemeteries in past years, focuses this year on the Ponus Monument, located on the corner of Davenport Ridge Road and Ponus Ridge. The monument is thought to be the tomb of Ponus, Sachem of the Toquam Tribe, and was unveiled in an elaborate ceremony in 1897. Ponus, a Chief, who lived in the 17th century, has been largely overlooked but shaped the history of this area.

A display of local arrow and spear heads will also be on view, on loan from New Canaan Country School. Local farmers in the Ponus Ridge area collected them many years ago. Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
