LCCC and Pennsylvania State Police Hosted Law Enforcement and Criminal Forensics Expo

Lehigh Carbon Community College (LCCC) was proud to announce a premier Law Enforcement and Criminal Forensics Expo, held in collaboration with the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP). The event took place on Wednesday, March 25, from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. in the Lisa Jane Scheller Community Services Center Ballroom at the College’s Schnecksville campus.

This interactive seminar served as a gateway for students and community members to explore the high-impact world of criminal forensics and the diverse career opportunities available within the Pennsylvania State Police.

A Launchpad for Careers in Criminal Justice and Cybersecurity

For those drawn to investigations, forensics, and digital defense, LCCC offered robust academic pathways designed for the modern workforce. The college provided specialized associate degrees in:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Cybersecurity

Recognizing the need for flexibility, LCCC featured “stackable” credentials. Students could build their momentum by first earning a diploma or certificate before seamlessly transitioning into a full associate degree program. This modular approach ensured that students gained industry-relevant skills and credentials at every stage of their education.

Seamless Pathways to Four-Year Degrees

LCCC’s commitment to student success extended far beyond the associate level. The College maintained partnerships with more than 60 institutions to facilitate smooth transfers for those pursuing advanced degrees. Most recently, LCCC had solidified an articulation agreement with Manor College. This partnership provided a direct, seamless transition for students graduating with:

  • A.A. Criminal Justice Administration
  • A.A. Business Administration

By aligning curricula, LCCC and Manor College ensured that students could continue their studies in criminal justice and business without the hurdle of credit loss, maximizing their time and investment. Celebrating Excellence in Manufacturing

Congratulations to our newest technical experts. On Friday, February 27, 2026, we gathered at the Hydro Extrusions Cressona plant to celebrate the graduation of Cohort #7’s final students.

Demonstrating our team’s dedication, the ceremony was held at 5:30 AM to honor graduates as the third shift ended. These students completed six months of intensive training in the LCCC Mobile Manufacturing Lab, following a rigorous curriculum alternating between Electrical and Mechanical Technician disciplines. This hands-on training equipped them with the advanced, versatile skills required in today’s manufacturing environment.

With this session’s conclusion, the Mobile Manufacturing Program surpassed a major milestone by graduating over 130 technicians for the Cressona plant. Preparations for Cohort #8 began, with the next group scheduled to enter the lab in 45 days.

From the Podium to Our Hallways: A Historic Win for LCCC

The recent LVEDC Annual Meeting was full of excitement, with almost 1,000 leaders attending. Governor Josh Shapiro and Lilly's Senior VP, Daniel VonDielingento, announced the largest life sciences project in Pennsylvania’s history: a $3.5 billion manufacturing campus in our region.

To mark this milestone, LCCC President Dr. Bieber recognized the collaborative effort that brought this project to life by unveiling the rendering of a dedicated wall within LCCC’s Center for Science and Technology.

The “Catalyst to Workforce Development” Pathway serves as a permanent tribute to the “dream team” of partners, including LVEDC, local government, and utility providers, who worked for months to secure this investment.

Developing the Next Generation of Leaders- Amcor Rigid Plastics Graduates

The LCCC Center for Workforce Development recently partnered with Amcor Rigid Plastics in Allentown, PA, to facilitate a specialized New Leader Training Class.

This program was strategically designed and customized to support Amcor’s mission of cultivating high-potential, first-time supervisors. Over the course of the training, 23 employees identified for their leadership potential worked to sharpen the essential skills, tools, and mindset required to transition successfully into supervisory roles.

Through this focused training, the partnership helped prepare these new leaders to guide their teams and maintain the high standards expected in today’s manufacturing industry.

Teacher Education Faculty Present at PDE Conference

Lehigh Carbon Community College was proudly represented at the 2026 Pennsylvania Department of Education Conference, held February 25–27 in Hershey, PA, through a poster presentation highlighting the Developing Future Special Educators (DFSE) initiative.

The DFSE program is a PaTTAN-funded effort designed to inspire and prepare high school and dual-enrollment students to pursue careers in special education. Elizabeth Shope, Assistant Professor of Education and Special Project Coordinator, serves as Project Director of the initiative, which connects students to interactive workshops, professional panels, and clearly defined transfer pathways leading to certification programs at Kutztown University and East Stroudsburg University.

Shope presented alongside Stephanie Shiffert, Assistant Professor and Learning Specialist, who serves as a DFSE workshop panelist, session presenter, and collaborating faculty member. Together, they shared the workshop model, discussed participant engagement and emerging outcomes, and engaged conference attendees in meaningful dialogue about strengthening Pennsylvania’s special education workforce pipeline.

The poster emphasized both statewide urgency and local opportunity. In Pennsylvania, approximately 20–21% of K–12 students receive special education services, yet enrollment in special education preparation programs remains limited. At LCCC, nearly 300 students are enrolled in Teacher Education programs, but only 24 are pursuing the Special Education A.S. degree.

The initiative reflects strong institutional collaboration and support, with ongoing leadership and guidance from campus administration:

  • Scott Aquila, Dean of Business, Legal, Education, and Institutional Effectiveness
  • Kelly Trahan, Dean of the Center for Workforce Development, Online Learning, and Technology
  • Megan Strella, Teacher Education Department Coordinator

This project was supported by the Grants Office (Greg Bott and Nic Ziegler), the Office of College Relations and Marketing (Sara Turkdonmez and Mike Busch), and Terri Houck from the Duplicating and Mail Center. Their collaboration was essential in securing PaTTAN funding and producing the conference poster.
