STATIC CONTROL FLOORING

ESD Flooring: Tiles vs. Epoxy

When selecting an ESD flooring solution, one of the most common questions we hear is:

Should I choose interlocking ESD floor tiles or epoxy flooring?

Both options provide effective electrostatic discharge protection, but they perform very differently when it comes to installation, flexibility, and long-term use.

Interlocking ESD Floor Tiles

These modular systems snap together without adhesives, making them a practical solution for fast-paced environments.

Key advantages:

  • Fast installation with little to no disruption
  • No curing time so your space is operational immediately
  • Can be installed over existing floors with minimal preparation
  • Individual tiles can be replaced if damaged
  • Easy to expand or reconfigure as your needs change

ESD Epoxy Flooring

Epoxy is a liquid coating applied directly to concrete, creating a seamless surface once cured.

Key advantages:

  • Smooth, uniform appearance
  • Strong bond to the substrate
  • Ideal for permanent, controlled environments
  • Durable under consistent, long-term use Considerations:
  • Longer installation and curing time
  • Requires shutdown of operations during install
  • Extensive surface preparation
  • Repairs and modifications can be costly and time-consuming

So which is right for you?

If your priority is speed, flexibility, and minimal downtime, interlocking tiles are typically the better fit.

If you need a seamless, permanent floor in a fixed environment, epoxy may be the right choice.

Data Centers and Network Offices

Shrinking devices and faster processing speeds are making it easier for IT components to be damaged by ESD. Unprotected IT devices can be damaged at around 250 volts. The next several generations of devices will see vulnerability drop to around 125 volts. Significant risk to the hardware exists even when there is no perceptible ESD present.
