🌙 Welcoming the Month of Dhul Qaʿidah 1446 AH

As the new moon of Dhul Qaʿidah rises, we enter one of the four sacred months ...a time when outward striving gives way to inner stillness.

This month is for deep lessons, but also for grounded service.

We're launching the Jannatul Firdaus Cat Sanctuary, and organizing hands-on volunteer projects across Fenton Zawiyah, Rawdah Cemetery, and Burton Masjid.

And yes, Shaykh Nour’s live sohbats & Khatm Khwajagan continue on Sufilive:

  • Thursdays at 6:30PM EST
  • Saturdays at 7:30PM EST

Along with a special visit to the DC & Philadelphia areas, the weekend of May 8-10th.

Tune in, show up, and stay connected, both online and on the ground.

The second khalwat of the year takes place from the first of Dhul Qa`idah to the tenth of Dhul-Hijjah, for 40 days. When the holy month of Dhul-Qa`idah, also known as Shahru ’l-haraam, arrives, say, “Yaa Rabbee, I intend, nawaytu ’l-arba`een,” to spend time sitting, doing Dhikrullah. Your heart will enter the Malakooti realm, into the beauty of Asmaullahi wa ’s-Siffaat, the knowledge of the Names of Allah ﷻ through Sayyidina Adam (ع)

Even if we missed the Rajab khalwat, we are encouraged now to intend and devote half an hour daily to Dhikrullah (remembrance of Allah), especially during three blessed times:

  • Between Asr and Maghrib,
  • Between Maghrib and Isha,
  • Half an hour before Fajr until shortly after Ishraq.

At these moments, Allah, Rasulullah ﷺ, and the Awliya (saints) gaze upon creation. Turning the heart towards Allah during these times invites spiritual support from the hidden Friends of Allah (the Qutub, the four Awtad, the four Aqtaab, and groups of saints mentioned by Sayyidina Ibn Arabi and as the “One, Three, Seven, Forty, Seventy, Seven-hundred, and Three-hundred-thirteen” according to Turkish tradition).

True knowledge (ʿilm) is already within the soul, but it must bear fruit through good deeds (ʿamal). Knowledge without action is like a tree without fruit.

Thus, even a simple half-hour daily seclusion can allow the Waliyullah to help perfect our knowledge and deeds — drawing us closer to Allah’s Mercy.

The Wisdom of Delayed Gratification

The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah is a lesson in patience and wisdom. On the surface, it seemed like a painful loss: the Prophet ﷺ and 1,400 companions were denied entry to Mecca to perform Hajj after years of exile, and they accepted the terms of an agreement that seemed unfair and humiliating.

While it appeared as a loss in worldly terms, the Treaty opened a period of time when Islam spread through peace, hearts were conquered without bloodshed, and the Prophet ﷺ set a living example of how true spiritual maturity rises above reactive impulse.

These verses were revealed after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah

Indeed, We have granted you [O Muhammad] a clear conquest.

That Allah may forgive you your past and future sins, complete His favor upon you, guide you on a Straight Path. And that Allah may grant you a mighty victory.

He is the One who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers so they may increase in faith along with their present faith. To Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Surah al-Fath (48:1–4)

Support the Jannatul Firdaus Cat Sanctuary!

We are raising $1,000 by May 31, 2025 to care for the beloved cats who live at the Fenton Zawiyah farm. These cats have long been our gentle companions during Dhikr, Mawlid, and farm work. But after a harsh winter and a lack of resources, our cat colony urgently needs care.

“Whoever is merciful even to a sparrow, Allah will be merciful to them on the Day of Judgment.”
