Dear SCS Alums,
We are so excited to share our Summer edition of the SCS Alumni Newsletter! As we enter July, we look forward to a new school year and celebrating 100 years of Catholic Education in 2026. What a blessing to be a part of this once-in-a-lifetime event!
Our 100th Anniversary Committee is busy planning lots of fun for the 2025 - 2026 School Year. We are collecting photos and artifacts from our school's history. If you have photos that you would like to be considered for inclusion in the 100th celebration materials, please send to bulletin@scschurch.com. If you have artifacts to donate or loan, please contact Nicole Surcouf at nsurcouf@scsgators.org. We are planning a wonderful celebration and would love to have items and photos to share throughout the Centennial Year.

Our Forward in Faith Capital Campaign is still in full swing. Our vision will put into practice all of the wonderful plans that allow our parish to continue its legacy of encountering Jesus, igniting hearts and transforming the world. At this point only 37.8% of the SCS community has contributed. If you haven't donated, please consider making a donation. No amount is too small... our goal is to get 100% participation in our community.
In this issue you will find information about the following:
- What's Happening on Campus
- St. Catherine School is Turning 100!
- SCS Campus Construction Update
- SCS Summer Camp Fun
- Forward in Faith Campaign Update
- Save the Date for SCS Events
- Generational Gators - multi-generational families at SCS
- The Currie - Motch Family
- Alumni Highlights
- High School Valedictorians & Salutatorians
- Noteworthy Alums
- Newest Alums - Class of 2025
We hope you enjoy the following update and look forward to sharing more with you in the coming editions. Enjoy a restful Summer and may God keep our community, parish and school safe during Hurricane season.
Yours In Christ,

The Currie family has been an integral part of St. Catherine of Siena Parish for 5 generations and the school for 3 generations.
In 1950, Laura Friedmann along with her daughter, Elise Friedmann, moved from Arabella Street Uptown to Atherton Drive in Old Metairie becoming members of St. Catherine of Siena Parish. That same year a second Friedmann daughter, Mae Friedmann Maechling and her husband Raymond joined the family as St. Catherine parishioners.
| | | | Raymond & Mae (nee Friedmann) Maechling | | | Mae & Raymond's daughter, Diane Maechling Currie, was born not long after her parents moved to SCS Parish and was the first of her family to be baptized in their new parish. Diane became a student at St. Catherine of Siena School and made her First Communion and Confirmation here. In 1974, she married Frank Carlton Currie in SCS church. | | Brian Currie as Altar Boy | | Currie Family (L to R): Brian, Diane, Frank & Michelle | | |
