Editor's Thoughts

The Concept of AI is Nothing New

Your Editor was a bit offended when I read how an engineering expert witness grossly used AI to do his work for him. According to the article, the engineer unabashedly asked AI to show him how his client was 0% responsible for an explosion that caused great death and damage. Then it dawned on me. We were warned about AI almost 100 years ago. You remember, don't you? It was the mirror from the movie, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The Evil Queen constantly asked "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?" Unlike our modern AI, the older AI always told the truth to the Evil Queen.

Expert Witness Fees in Dispute

One of the most reliable ways to get headaches while doing expert witness work is fighting the courts to get paid for your services. This article is why I get retainers. Click Here

Two Alaska Men Die in Trench Collapse

For obvious reasons, all utilities are buried deeper in Alaska. Septic systems are no exception. Yet, two older workers who should have known about trench safety got themselves buried in a trench that was thirteen feet deep. And yes, OSHA applies in AK. Click Here

More Ipse Dixit from the "Island of Academia"

Talk to any of the educated people who provide expert witness work regarding slip and fall cases and you will hear how "this" test or "that" test is the one to determine a safe floor. Yet rarely will you hear that it is the International Code Council (ICC) that determines a code compliant slip resistant floor. The ICC uses the pendulum method and the BOT-3000E to test floors for adherence to slip resistance. The floor passes or it doesn't. It's that simple!!! Give credit where credit is due. Click Here

Expert Referrals

Expert referral companies have their place. However, the added referral fee on top of the expert's hourly rate can make using these experts prohibitive. Let me help you. I know hundreds of Board Certified Forensic Engineers from all disciplines. Please allow me to refer you to one of these vetted, court tested experts for your next insurance claim or legal matter. There is no charge to you! I do not receive a fee from anyone. This is my way of helping you and my Forensic Engineering colleagues. Please email me or call 404.395.7441.

Note: No warranties, expressed or implied, are made to the suitability of any expert referred to you. Do your homework to make sure you have the right expert.
